The best ranked IPA of every state

I've had four of them so far:

Arizona: Tempe brewery Four Peaks Brewing Co. makes a 47-IBU IPA called Hop Knot.

Had it during spring training last year in AZ. OK, nothing special.

Delaware: Milton’s Dogfish Head Brewery makes a 90-IBU IPA called 90 Minute IPA.

God-awful dreck.

Michigan: Kalamazoo’s Bell’s Brewery makes a 70-IBU IPA called Hopslam Ale.

Made with honey to crank up the alcohol to 10%. Not too bad. I buy a sixer every year just because it's different. Every year.

Wisconsin: The New Glarus Brewing Co. makes a double IPA called Scream.

Very nice beer from a brewery known for its Spotted Cow which is horrible.

I breathlessly await :dins:

Never seen it before. Not much of a database.

I like all kind of different types. Most people's favorites are typically made nearby. Probably has something to do with the beer being fresh, and hopefully kept cold the entire time.

Not a fan of hop monsters. They are, without exception, boorish, crude and obnoxious. No craft. No subtlety.

When you crack open the can, it plays the first few bars of Sabbath's Iron Man.

Yeah, I enjoy IPAs, but the doubles I can do without.

Just got back from Washington yesterday and while I was up there I bought a variety 12 pack of Pyramid Fall brews.

Rye Pale Ale
Oktoberfest
India Pale Lager
India Red Ale

The India Red Ale was the best of the bunch. Very good beer.

You made it to the U&L, and decided to splurge on a shorty of corporate drek?

Not necessarily. I tried a local stout and an IPA while in Roche Harbour. I also tried some Bombay out of Bellingham and a couple of other IPAs brewed and sold locally at a small bar in LaConnor. The names escape me, but they weren't brewed from a corporate drek. I was just saying I liked that Red Ale. It's a good fucking beer.

Was just at beeradvocate seeing how some of these did there. Most of the ratings are typical micro-snob doucebaggery where they all try to out-faggot one another with clever adjectives, but, I came across one that was fukking nails. This dude should post here.
Soooooo on the way back from a longggggg day on the job I'm cruising on a janky exit from the highway needing a pack of smoke and decide to stop at the nearest convenience store I can find. Low and behold I stumble upon cases and cases of this and other bottom of the barrel Malt liquors for $1 a piece or $15 for a case of 24.

Curiosity may kill the cat, But tonight is not a night for fancy aristocratic swill to grace my palate, it's a night for GETTING DRUNK. So begins the conquest..

Look - Darker shade of yellow with a big ole frothy white head with bubbles popping like a volcano getting ready to erupt. The head does not cling very well and it eventually recedes to but a ghost within your glass without a touch of lacing.

Smell - WOOOHOOOOO, Alcohol and lots of it. I can almost smell the obama phone in this one!.

Taste - Alcoholic everywhere, but it isn't all that offensive. a pleasant, mouth numbing touch of alcohol. The usual graininess and finishes a tad sweet.

Feel - Medium bodied with a touch of the carbonation for measure.

Overall - Not really that bad. Smells more alcoholic than it turned out to be.
Easily the best racist malt liquor smack I have heard yet.

Sorry, I'm laughing away here, that's about the size of it  If you really feel like being a prick, stop in the local small brewer and ask if they've anything without hops, rather barley and malt and gauge the reaction. It'll be flippen priceless!

You guys are getting your 'Merican stereotypes mixed up. Sabbath = Bud Rice swiller. The hophead is too 'cultured' for that shit. That's why he listens to U2.

talk about mixed up stereotypes.

U2 fan is 48 year old dental hygenist. Corona or rice-lite swiller.

Hophead dude is probably listening to the dead or newer rock.

If there were hopheads in 1981, they would have been listening to U2.

Another demographic for hophead is former hipster that finally got a good paying job.

I find that damn near every mountain biker that I know is a craft beer fan if not a hophead. People that are nutty enough to spend 4 figures for a fukking bicycle don't have a problem scraping together a few extra bucks for beer. Don't believe I have seen a single can of rice juice busted out after a ride yet.

For an everyday IPA, you can't go wrong with this:

Image

Funny story about Hypeslam; I picked up a six pack of the stuff when it was available in January, the day before the Mrs. and I left on a trip to Cancun. I cracked one while we were packing when she told me about some last minute errands that needed to be done. I had only taken about two drinks, handed it to her and told her to finish it and I would be back. I picked up what we needed, boarded the dog and headed home. All told, I was gone hour, hour and a half tops.

I get back to the house and she is still working on the beer, talking to her mother. I go to crack one for myself and only see two in the fridge. In 90 minutes, my wife put down 4 of them. She didn't realize how much alcohol was in them or why she was suddenly so drunk.

Not that Dins gives two squirts of piss if anyone here agrees with him or not, but I was at a conference for a week in Portland back in mid-July, and I had many of theses on draft at the hotel bar as well as other places. A damn good beer.

Even found my way to Dante's for a show one night, but that is a different story.

And it's damn good beer. But there's better out there.

For all of the poofters out there whose taste buds have been forever bruised by the likes of Dogshithead, there are some properly balanced IPAs that are not simply hop bombs, but rather incorporate a proper measure of malt.

Just like with beer, there are different preferences. Some like full bodied and balanced. Some tend to like them simply robust. Sometimes the lack of balance can be a fun change of pace.

But for the most part, men just prefer they go down easy.

Of course m2 is an exception to the rule, as he would rather have fruity notes and a salty finish.

I drink more than my fair share of really good red wine. And over the years, I've managed to become friends with several wine snobs who get all worked up over terroir and other things I find trivial. They prefer subtle, nuanced earthy (clay/chalk?) wines that really take a lot of work to get any satisfaction from, at least in my book. I like the big California-style reds, that while big and fucking awesome, are still completely balanced and have a near perfect mouth feel. Am I wrong? Who gives a shit? Its my money and that's what I like. So fuck you and stay out of my wine cellar if you don't like what I feel like uncorking at the moment.

I feel the same way about beer. Someone walks a whatever the fuck malt concoction over to me and asks me what I think. I'll drink it. If I like it, I'll drink more. If it don't please me, I go back to the citra/mosaic hop bombs I like. No skin of my ballus sackus.
This gets a Yom Kippur, scribed into the book of life, Rack!

Funny enough, I went to a birthday party at the local for a friend of a friend. Sat quietly cause I didn't really know anyone and guy comes up, 'you ordered'?
Well not yet.

'Like hoppy beers'?

No.

'Have you tried boneshaker? It's hoppy'!

No. I don't like hoppy beers.

'Right, two boneshakers! Man this shit is so hoopy, you'll love it!
