Hmm...I thought every high school across the nation did this. I had no idea it was a Texas thing. I went to Homecoming three out of four years and wore the mum on my sleeve my date bought for me and she wore hers on her chest that I bought for her. I honestly can't remember if we wore that stupid thing during the entire Homecoming week or just that Friday. I'm sure I have pictures of me wearing one, but I don't feel like crawling through the attic and finding said photos and scanning it for you assholes.
It's a tradition thing, not a rainbow thing.

Strange. I went to high school in Texas and I don't ever remember seeing anything like that. We just had the normal boutonnières and corsages for formals.

Texas just moved up in the gay power ranking. Better watch out Cali and Mass, Texas has you in its sites.

I never saw a guy wearing such, and I don't recall girls wearing them either. We did buy our dates flowers before formal events as Mvscal pointed out.
Might be a thing taken from the Hispanic culture. They often wear ribbons and trinkets for different festivals and events. Then these things go on the front door or elsewhere for a few weeks as decoration. For example the Fiesta celebration here in SA starts with elaborate parties and gatherings. The ladies wear something similar to this article and then it becomes a door decoration for the rest of Fiesta. Similar to a wreath at Christmas minus the wearing of said wreath on the first night of Passover.

Texas has a long way to go in terms of "acrid urine stench" before they're in Cali's league...

They will never be able to hold a (scented) candle to the bay area, I will give you that. But this does at least put texas into the elite ranking. This one thing has leap frogged them past long time respected gay states like Florida, Colorado, Vermont etc... Cali is prolly still secure in the 1 spot, but Mass....I don't know. They could get bumped, for the off season anyway, when most of P-town shuts it down and heads to Key West. The B&B owners in the Berkshires are going to have to pick up the slack.

I guess "everything's bigger in Texas" applies to gaping buttholes as well.

Also,
Is there anything more "Texas" than a dead eyed moose of a boy wearing arm tassels that The Ultimate Warrior would deem "a bit much" punctuated with the gayest lion ever standing next to his daily reminder that, in his parents eyes, his best days are essentially behind him...........unless his team can make it to state this year?

Yeah, I don't quite understand the obsession with glorifying your kids during their teen years of high school. It's pretty bad down here especially in smaller towns. I understand loving and supporting your kid, but if it has to do with football, mom and dad can take it to psycho levels of Ray Finkle on Dan Marino.

It happens here too. I was on my brothers porch trying some home brew when my nephew showed me a YouTube video of his teammates highlights from last year complete with background music and all.
Bear in mind the boy is 12. Nice going pops. I'm sure the folks at Fathead laughed their asses off when they took that guys order for the larger than life wall transfer of junior.

How times change. When I was a kid there was no Little League baseball or Pop Warner football. We just took a ball, bat, and glove over to the park and played choose up sides ball. The kids in my neighborhood had a 6 man football team and we'd play kids from other neighborhoods. No adults in charge, no uniforms, just kids having fun and learning by playing. Now with every parent thinking their child is going to get a multi-million $$ sport's contract, we have what we have.

The reason Texas is climbing in the rankings is due to the 1500 Cali's moving in each week.

I dunno, mikey. Pretty much all of them are taxpayers. You can't exactly spare those folks, especially with gov moonbeam coming up with new ways of spending your money every day.
MS, I don't know if his 1500 number is accurate, but, lets just say there are a hell of a lot more UHauls traveling east on I-40 than west.

The number I found was 36 people a week in net migration from Ca to Tx in 2012.

In that same article: "There are plenty of Texans leaving as well. More than 32,000 left for California last year."
Hopefully we are not getting your Balcks and Mexicans.

Actually California has been running a surplus for the past couple of years. Something like $8 billion this year if I remember correctly.
How's Connecticut doing?
