We're Saved!! (for now)

Post by LTS TRN 2 »

The utterly unqualified fraud that was Antonio Scalia has kicked the fucking bucket, and the republic is spared, or at least given a brief reprieve. The various odious personal qualities of Scalia--his pompous arrogance and bizarre inverted logic, need not be addressed at this time. It is enough that we can breath a good sigh of relief.

Maybe the Senate can just sit on the whole approval thing until the elections are over. Let the next (hopefully right wing) president pick the next justice.

LTS is definitely the guy to listen to about Scalia and his career on the SCOTUS.

Except he doesn't know the guy's name.

Well,, this fukking blows. I was figuring that ruth buzzy ginsburg would be the one punching out. Hopefully, the republicans can grow a pair for once and not let him push another leftist through. I wonder if there is a possibility of running out the clock on this appointment. Don't suppose the dems would be dumb enough to appoint a closet conservative like the reps have done a few times lately the other way around.

I can easily see Obama dragging his feet on submitting a name for the Senate's consideration for approval. He'd wait to see what the FBI comes up with in Hillary Clinton felony espionage/treason case and either make a deal with her to pardon her in exchange for her submitting his name to the Senate to be the newest Justice. And if that isn't politically palatable, he'd offer his full backing to the old white dude, Sanders, and tell America's balck population that he's the jive-est 74 year old MFer who ever came out of Vermont and that they need to come out in droves and vote four or five times each to get him elected-- for the same dealio: Supreme Court Justice Barack Mohammed (PBUH) Hussein Allah Akbar Obama, former Constitutional law teacher at Chicago Law School.

If this happens, you heard it here first.

His name is mulch. Let's hope Thomas follows him promptly in the manner of long devoted spouses. I'll bet Ginsberg and Kagan are doing aerobics to a brisk and mirthful hora right about now.

Good riddance. The moron had no clue as to the 1st Amendment (and it's original intention by author Thomas Jefferson), and tried to make this country a theocracy.

And this talk of Obama deferring to the next POTUS is just nonsense. I could understand it if it was November after the election, but in February? Obama has every right to nominate a new candidate for SCOTUS.

One less justice who thinks corporations are people & takes their marching orders from sky fairies is a good thing.

Corporations are groups of people. These people do have first amendment rights. What is so fukking difficult to understand. And letting religious people have rights too is not a theocracy, dumbass.

Obergfell v. Hodges

He voted against upholding the rights of gays & lesbians to get married. Citizens don't get to decide the constitutional rights of others unless there is a compelling reason. And there was no compelling reason for Scalia to deny Obergfell.

I dunno. I've seen Obama kill plenty of corporations with new Federal laws and regs. Coal companies are stacked up like cord wood. And he certainly has executed jobs by the millions. He's the quintessential Third World genocidal dictator to jobs.

Wrong, Rooster, all you've seen is Obama going along with Citizens United (not to mention the TPP). It's still a monstrous betrayal of America, but just because Obama is a total sell-out to the Wall St. corporate agenda certainly doesn't mean that any GOP malignancy wouldn't have done it as well. Can you possibly imagine if something like Mitt Romney was in the white house? Why are you so pathetically tunnel-visioned?

A. Jefferson was in France when the Constitution was written.

B. The "original intent" of the establishment clause was to prevent the federal gov't from interfering with the officially established religions in 9 of the 13 states.

WTF does that have to do with anything, cuckold?
Are you saying that Jefferson was not the author of the 1st Amendment?
B. The "original intent" of the establishment clause was to prevent the federal gov't from interfering with the officially established religions in 9 of the 13 states.
Talk about seeing things that aren't there! Where in the 1st Amendment did Jefferson write that the scope of the establishment clause was limited to states? The rest of the amendment addresses the rights of individuals...why would you assume that the first portion was only meant to prevent the federal government from interfering with state-established religion?

Sonething I heard this morning bugs me a bit.

Scalia will not get an autopsy.

I realize that there is nothing out of the ordinary about 79 year olds dropping dead, but, considering who this guy was, seems to me that it should be SOP. There are a whole lotta folks out there happy to see him die early enough for barry to get a shot at replacing him and shifting the balance of the court for for years to come.

What sort of security do the supremes have? This guy may have been 79, but, apparently he was feeling well enough to go on a hunting trip in the midde of nowhere. You would guess that a dude with heart issues might have wanted to stay close to a real medical facility.

Just seems like an autopsy would be a good idea and make tin-foil hat wearing fukks like me sleep a little better.

Ok, I'll admit I fucked up on assigning authorship. But you're still a bleating dipshit.
In an 1822 letter to Edward Livingston James Madison wrote:Notwithstanding the general progress made within the two last centuries in favour of this branch of liberty, & the full establishment of it, in some parts of our Country, there remains in others a strong bias towards the old error, that without some sort of alliance or coalition between Govt. & Religion neither can be duly supported. Such indeed is the tendency to such a coalition, and such its corrupting influence on both the parties, that the danger cannot be too carefully guarded agst. And in a Govt. of opinion, like ours, the only effectual guard must be found in the soundness and stability of the general opinion on the subject. Every new & successful example therefore of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance. And I have no doubt that every new example, will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt. will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.
Notice that Madison never referenced state governments specifically, shitstain.

smackaholic;
I have to agree that it looks really shady that they didn't do an autopsy after Scalia was reportedly found with a pillow over his head. It's also ironic when one considers the bruhaha that erupted between federal & Texas officials over the release of JFK's body.

Bing Crosby felt healthy enough to play 18 holes before he dropped dead. My grandfather baled hay the day before his fatal heart attack. I'm sure Scalia didn't see it coming.

Of course it's irregular and suspicious that such a prominent figure should just drop dead with no warning--and have the cause of death be determined by a judge over the phone ("heart attack") and have no autopsy. However, this case should not be compared to the outrageous smuggling of the body of JFK out of Texas. Texas law demands an autopsy for someone dying in a crime in Texas. Well, Scalia may have been whacked, but unlike JFK, there's no obvious proof of an assassination.

Bottom line, another day without Scalia is another day of hope. The media's shameless pandering to his dreadful legacy of blustering and bizarre radical judicial activism (despite his Orwellian claims to the contrary) is nauseating.

Scalia, simply, was a theocrat striving with robust egocentric assurance to impose his (thoroughly irrelevant) personal religious principles and attitudes into federal law. The list of his absurdly disjointed and hackneyed statements and subsequent official opinions is astonishing. No other judge of his rank has ever displayed such careless and reckless disregard for the constitution and the bill of rights. He was absurdly unqualified when tapped by Reagan--another absolute fraud who still gets props from weirdos like you, babs. Scalia and his intellect would have been more appropriately placed in an institution like Liberty University.

Let's see...

- 79 years old
- high blood pressure
- bad ticker
- had been sick and in the Dr's office twice in the past week
- too weak to undergo shoulder surgery

Yep, probably murdered by a closet Democrat on a West Texas industrialist's ranch. The judge was probably in on it too.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/justice- ... d=36975416
Even though the relatives and doctors of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reportedly knew about his health conditions, the fact that the concerns were kept from the public is in keeping with the practices of the court, experts said.

Unlike the White House, which regularly releases updates on the president's health, the Supreme Court does not have set guidelines regarding what they do and don't disclose publicly.

Scalia's Health History

When the 79-year-old justice was found dead on Saturday in a hotel room at a luxury ranch in Texas, the county's presiding judge, Cinderella Guevara, was called and pronounced him dead.

Guevara said she spoke to Scalia's doctor in Washington who told her that Scalia had been sick and had visited his office twice during the week leading up to the trip.

The Associated Press reported that Guevara said the doctor told her that Scalia had a history of high blood pressure, heart trouble and was considered too weak to undergo shoulder surgery following a recent injury.

Guevara told ABC News that the death certificate will say that he died of natural causes with myocardial infarction, better known as a heart attack, being a contributing factor.

Health Factors Weighing In

Dr. Sahil Parikh, an interventional cardiologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, never treated Scalia but said that even without knowing his specific family history, there are certain clear factors that may have contributed.

Parikh said that two significant risk factors for heart disease are an individual’s age and gender, with men over 55 years old being the most at-risk group.

“He clearly has some risk factors for heart disease and as those increase in number, so does your risk for having a coronary event,” Parikh told ABC News.

The Tradition With Justices

Even though it appears that nothing had been released recently by the Supreme Court about Justice Scalia's health, there have been other disclosures made about different members of the bench.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is now 82, has had cancer twice and made disclosures in both cases.

Kate Shaw, an ABC News contributor and an assistant professor of law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, said that Ginsburg has been "very forthcoming" with regards to her health.

Ginsburg released a statement in November 2014 saying that she was going to have a heart stent implanted.

"The procedure went smoothly, and she did not miss a single day of oral arguments," Shaw said.

Shaw also pointed out that the court released a statement after Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure in 2007.

The disclosures, when they come, typically are made after an official prognosis by a doctor.

"When Chief Justice Rehnquist was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October 2004, the Supreme Court's public information office announced the diagnosis, and further announced that he would be undergoing radiation and chemotherapy," Shaw said.

"He returned to the bench in March of 2005, and when he declined to announcement his retirement at the end of that term -- Justice O’Connor instead announced her retirement -- the assumption was that Chief Justice Rehnquist was in good health and would continue serving," Shaw said. "But his health rapidly declined in July and August, and he died on Sept. 3, 2005, creating a second vacancy for President Bush to fill."

According to a report compiled by the Congressional Research Service, 41% of the Supreme Court vacancies that occurred in the first half of the 20th century were a result of a justice dying while in office.

Since then, however, Rehnquist's death was the only one for a sitting Justice since 1954, the report states.

Mikey,

He probably did just croak, but it would make sense to just do an autopsy to make the tin-foil hatters happy.

There are a lot of people that wanted him dead, just as I have been praying to the cancer ferry to take ginsberg for a while now. Actually, it would be better if she holds on for another year. With my luck, she'll eject next week and give barry a shot at two more picks.

Why encourage morons to keep being morons?

I guess the fact that he was *allegedly* found with a pillow over his head might lead one to believe that a brilliant Jason Bourne-type Democrat operative might have sneaked onto the grounds of the Cibolo Creek Ranch, completely undetected, killed the Good Judge, and escaped again leaving no trace that he was ever there. Except of course a pillow over the head of his victim, obviously left as a calling card.

Funny - it seems like all the people calling for an autopsy (except of course the tin-foil hatters) are current and/or retired homicide detectives. No tin foil there.

Did anybody do any background checks on Scalia's family? Seems like they're the ones getting in the way of this very proper and reasonable procedure.
