Do you believe we should have stood up to Soviet expansion anywhere?Sudden Sam wrote:I feel terrible for the families who lost loved ones...whether they were killed, maimed, or forever fucked in the head by Nam.
But Ali had the balls to tell the powers that be to go to hell. At the time I didn't appreciate it, but time has had the effect of opening my eyes to the bullshit that was Viet Nam. I respect the heck out of him for saying hell no, I ain't fighting your crock of a war.
I have nothing but respect for those who went and did what they were compelled to do by the American government, but, at the same time, I can respect a man who stood up to those bastards and said no.

Re: Ali. Toast.
There was no Soviet expansion at all during the (phony) Cold War. They abided by the Yalta agreement. As to why the U.S. and European allies would have agreed to such a shameless carving up of sovereign nations is another matter. But the American government has been the ruthless expansionist, invading various nations in Central and South America dozens of times..

The invasion of Vietnam was a horrific war crime, period. Truman had agreed that France could resume its own barbaric colonial subjugation of Vietnam following WWII, and when the Vietnamese drove them out, the U.S. shamelessly attacked and destroyed the peaceful nation.
Your tedious Red Scare drivel is not only obsolete, but was never an actual threat in the first place.

Rack you for coming around. I did appreciate it at the time. Proudly protested the war and tasted my share of tear gas.Sudden Sam wrote:I feel terrible for the families who lost loved ones...whether they were killed, maimed, or forever fucked in the head by Nam.

So the N. Koreans, N. Vietnamese ran/tried to run us all by themselves then? And the 40 plus year domination of the eastern Euros was imaginary as well then?Goober McTuber wrote:Rack you for coming around. I did appreciate it at the time.
