Mostly known for his time with the Vikings he was also HC at Northwestern for five years (Big 10 Coach of the year in 1982) and three years at Stanford. Learned the "West Coast" offense from Bill Walsh while an assistant at Stanford and the Niners. At Stanford he was 16-18 but beat Kal all three years, and went 8-3 in 1990 with a victory over the #1 ranked Domers in South Bend.

Getting his ass crowned at the big stadium in the sky.

I believe he was also head coach at Columbia before NW when the Lions here, amazingly, even worse than NW.

RIP indeed. Crown their ass is forever rooted in the great sports quotes.

26-63 as a college coach, admittedly at NWestern and Stanford before admins saw athletic success as a powerful PR branch of the university writ large......turns his 8-4 year into the Vikings job and wins 11 games in his first season. wow. doesn't have a losing season until a decade later. two NFC championship games, playoffs 8/10 years at Minny. i remember that 15-1 FG miss that sent the Falcons and Dan Reeves to the Super Bowl. that was big in Colorado....Broncos win back to back Super Bowls. beat Reeves, dodge the Vikings.

RIP Dennis.
