So I have no doubts that everyone heard of the new OS that is out. I know from prior discussions that there are a number of people who have G4 systems and Laptops and maybe even a few lucky G5 users.

I figured I'd post up a warning that a lot of networking software people who make software for Macs have found that there have been some changes in the Kernel that break their software. Primarily some VPN and Networking tools.

Just thought I'd throw up that warning in case you use your Mac to access corporate networks through VPN.

I've installed 10.4 on both my iBook and G4.

Since I don't network either of them, I've had absolutely ZERO problems.

Spotlight is great. As a teacher covering three different courses, each with labs, having a superfast tool for finding a specific document or graphic on my HD is a huge help.

Widgets are cute, but not necessary. From what I've seen on the 'net, there's already folks designing custom Widgets, so who knows, maybe someone will come out with a can't-live-without one for me down the road.

Gentoo linux for the G5 right here:

If, you know, you're into that sort of thing...

Oh yeah, it's free.
