Saw them a couple of times. Insane level of musicianship. Best rock keyboardist, and arguably 2nd best rock drummer.

RIP to the 21st Century Schizoid Man.

I had Brian Salad Surgery in my HS record collection, intense. Different in a Yes type of way. All great musicians. RIP.

I can't dislike you anymore... well maybe I can because I utterly despise your lack of style and class.

You disgust me, sir... but we have more in common than not.

Now I feel like I need a tetanus shot.

A tequila shot might be better.

There were only three of them. Compare total amount of talent to an outfit like Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and there's no comparison.

You're right - Emerson was a giant among rock musicians. The early 70s was a time when electronic keyboards were just starting to make a splash, and an amazing amount of creative stuff was coming out. In the jazz world a bunch of great keyboard players were also experimenting and transitioning from the post bop 60s to jazz/rock/R&B/funk fusion.

Some pretty incredible stuff out there from Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Joe Zawinul to name a few. I'll try and post some stuff later but check out:

Pretty impressed with ELP covering Aaron Copland, here and elsewhere. Hoedown ring a bell? But it doesn't get much better than this.

Covering Mussorgsky was pretty impressive too.

Another keyboard giant of the 70s, though Jaco tends to be a show stealer.
