Speaking of Trump and whatnot, I C&Ped this letter from my local news site, as it appears.
Can anyone here who paid attention in third grade figure out why I'm laughing so much?

In a tweet Donald Trump sent out on Dec. 26, he claimed that he had given "millions to the DJT foundation, raised or RECIEVED millions more ..." (emphasis added).
So exactly where was this self-proclaimed "very smart" man when the rest of the third graders in his class were learning from their English teacher the simple formula of "i before e except after c?"
What an embarrassment this fool is in small ways and, unhappily and appallingly, large ways as well.

When I was in third grade we didn't have an English teacher, per say. We did have a Spanish teacher that came around a couple of times a week, though.
I guess they thought it was more importent to learn a foriegn language than our native English.

Well, you know, I'm having sort of a bad day so I guess I'm maybe a little slow. The Holidays were sort of challenging in a number of different ways and I'm still trying to get up to speed.
I'm sure I'll do a double or triple face palm when you fill me in, though. Seems like she got all of the quotation marks and punctuation in the right order. Three dots for the ellipsis...
I did notice an exception to her formula rule, about a half dozen words before she stated it.

Why? Because the period was outside of the first set of quotation marks? You could argue that that's the correct usage, since "(emphasis added)" isn't part of the quotation and so doesn't belong inside.

I read somewhere that automakers are actual global companies, not national. I wonder if that's true.
Maybe the Japanese will start pulling their assembly plants out of:
Toyota
Mississippi
Kentucky
Texas
Indiana
Alabama
Virginia
Nissan
Tennessee
Mississippi
Honda
Ohio
Alabama
Indiana
California
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia

The ellipses replaced a missing portion of the quote, so that's correct.
But I'm pretty sure the third grade teacher wasn't actually asking her students about the "formula." (And yes, I started started a paragraph with a conjunction -- fuck off, it's messageboarding).

A couple of them. I chalked one of them up to intentional humor, since it dealt directly with the subject at hand.
I guess my amusement stemmed from someone penning a letter to the biggest newspaper around decrying Trump's language usage as below-third-grade, in which she made a very basic usage error herself... ergo (Latin) -- self-asskicking.

If you take the total amount of manufacturing (parts, finished product, etc.) and administration, Toyota is the "most American" car maker, ahead of Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

Not illegal, even in "serious" writing.
And yes, I wrote a sentence without a subject or a verb...fuck off it's messageboarding.

Pretty sure we gave up on proper usage many years ago. (I was trying to figure out how to state that without a subject or a verb, but failed miserably.)

Screwy,
Politics is a story. Trump is killing the Dems on the jobs issue. Dems can say he didn't save that many jobs or gave away to much to keep the jobs in the US. Meanwhile Trump can roll out a single balck mother who will look at the camera and say Trump saved my job.
Which of those will resonate with voters?

Yes, this is his strategy. But it's transparent what is going on and I doubt he'll be able to get away with it for very long.
Companies are allowing him to claim credit for basically doing nothing. What a nation! What free market economy we live in.

Why won't he be able to get away with it? Dems have been doing this for decades. Trump is just taking the script from the Dems playbook and using it against them.

Ford is still moving production of the Focus to Mexico, but demand for that model has dropped so they don't need a whole new plant to build it. Instead the money is being spent in the US to ramp up R&D and production of hybrid, electric and electric autonomous (self-driving for you knuckledraggers) vehicles.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/won ... a426de2391
http://www.autoblog.com/2017/01/03/ford ... g-transit/
Fields was blunt about why Ford changed its mind, canceling a $1.6 billion factory slated for San Luis Potosi. "The reason that we are not building the new plant,” he said, “the primary reason, is just demand has gone down for small cars.”
So believe what you want, but Trump's Twitter shaming of the auto industry really had little, if anything, to do with the decision. The timing gives both Trump and Ford a nice little PR opportunity and if you all want to fall for that, well...let's just say I'm not surprised. It must really irk Scrote et al, though, that they're channeling their investment $$ into making snowflakey treehugger type vehicles.
Kind of looking forward to seeing the F150 and Mustang hybrids.
They might even include an optional purse hook for the lift and steam crowd.

Mikey, facts don't matter. Stories do. You even said it yourself, this gives Ford and Trump a nice litter PR bump.
You and or the Dems or Fact Check can roll out facts all you want. That won't play nearly as well as one TV commercial with a balck single mother looking at the camera saying "Trump saved my job from moving to Mexico."
