They're legit questions. What determines acceptable sexuality? Particularly in a world with feminist scholars willing to seriously argue that all sex between adult men and women is non-consentual.

And now that wolfman has opened this can of worms, what do you think about parents allowing their confused 12 year old tomboy daughter take steps to become a "man"? I mean if age is a taboo when it comes to non-traditional sexual choices, then you MUST be against allowing a 12 year old boy taking hormonal treatment to grow himself a rack. While pedophilia is a horrific crime, we need to take a deeper look. From what we know of his father, it's not unreasonable to assume that the kid suffered horrible, disgusting, long-term abuse. That's what "normal" was to him. Considering a $100 million "business" couldn't weed the sicko out and sequestered the victims, the kid had no chance at proper counseling. The legacy of Jerry kept giving. An alarming percentage of childhood victims of predators go on to mimic their abuser. And if that abuser was the person he trusted most, it really becomes "normal" to him.

It doesn't excuse his acts, but it certainly explains them.

Chemical castration seems like a reasonable compromise (I'll admit, I don't know how effective that treatment is). I'll I know is that the cycle needs to be broken.

The death penalty is as successful at preventing crime as legal abortion is at promoting safe sex: neither do. They're mop up operations after the fact, and they both disproportionately affect one class over the other.

Sandusky was able to hurt children because he gave TPTB something they wanted, and they protected him even when he should have been jailed.

A death penalty will not stop people who are born that way, and it will not prevent victims from becoming monsters themselves as a coping mechanism. Think outside the box for a successful alternative.

IB is talking about the deterrent effect, not on those already convicted asswipe.

That said, IB's statement is an argument for the DP. If the threat of death doesn't serve as a deterrent, isn't that even more of a reason to get rid of them (same with murderers)?

Here is my philosophy on the whole topic.

I am for the death penalty in some cases even if it can't be proven to be a deterrent, because, well, some motherfukkers simply need to be killed and the fact that it gives some victims some sort of solace is reason enough. Also, there is my original point made somewhat humorously that the DP is by far the best way to fix the recidivism problem.

Some will use the argument that it is irreversible and will result in some being killed, then exonerated later. To them I would say that yes, that is a very unfortunate possibility, but how about the person who ends up dead at the hands of someone who should already be dead, had they been whacked when they should have. Both are rare cases, but have happened. How many times has someone in prison doing life without parole killed someone else in prison? I would argue that this person ended up dead as the result of the lack of a death penalty.
