Let say Bro and Bud are out partying after cashing their paycheck. They get a little loud and the cops are called. They don't shut up when they should and find themselves in the drunk tank for the night. Turns out Bud is in the country illegally but the city/county doesn't bother to check on that. Bro has a warrant in another state for overdue child support. In the morning they let Bud walk out, but keep Bro. How is that acceptable? Where is the ACLU on this?

I disagree with the concept of sanctuary cities. But that being said....

All it means is the state can't spend money on ICE tasks.

Many cities here have the same law -- BFD. They still can't interfere with ICE. That Constitution thingy says immigration, and the enforcement of it is a Fed deal, not a state deal, nor a municipal deal.

Portland is a sanctuary city, and they "fully cooperate," as long as it doesn't require expending any city resources to do it (i.e. use local law enforcement's time, or require extra time in jail beyond when they'd already be there, or research immigration status on the city's dime).


This whole "sanctuary city" thing is almost entirely symbolic, and amounts to a big nothingburger... and I'm all for deporting illegal aliens (who are an insult to my erstwhile immigrant parents).
