Mornin' Folks: ver. 3.0

I had to take my car in for an issue with the keyless access and the push start feature. Apparently, if you swap out batteries on a Ford the MyKey data gets wiped and doesn't fully recognize your keys.
It got me to thinking about this one simple task of changing a battery and what it's created since then as far as my time.
- 1 hr of driving to Ford dealership and talking with service people
- 30 minutes of calling Ford Motor Company asking why I'm going to be charged a diagnostics fee and a reprogramming fee ($400 total) for some 1s and 0s going haywire on a system they built.
- 30 minutes of calling locksmiths around town getting their input on the situation and seeing if I was better off just resetting the whole system and getting two new keys made.
- 1 hr of driving back to dealership this morning to drop off vehicle and ordering an Uber to get back home
Changing a battery to a vehicle 10 years ago might lead to changing the alternator which might take another hour of your time, but it was simple to figure out when your battery wouldn't hold a charge. That isn't the case anymore.
Technology has made things so simple for us in many ways, but when it comes to car keys now, it's a complete mess.
Can you think of other technical advances that have actually slowed us down?

How the fukk did they not put an internal battery to provide a keep alive voltage to avoid this issue? Oh yeah, that's right, so they could ass rape their customers down the road. Nice going Ford.

As for things slowing us down, yes. I am a field tech. My work gets documented on an app on my phone. Most of my work gets documented twice. Once on our company app and then on another for TSA. And it takes 10 times longer than it ought. This is because nowadays companies want data. They don't want there managers to just look at what you did, they want you to provide as much trivial shot as you can so they can make cool looking graphs and pie charts. So rather than your day being 95% doing and 5% documenting it ends up being about 50/50 or worse. This is the biggest problem with healfcare these days. And it all goes back to the fact that we have managers with laptops and they feel they aren't doing their job if they aren't stuffing that laptop full of data, regardless of the accuracy of said data.

One of the locksmith guys told me if you jump a newer Nissan with cables, your key fob data gets wiped. That is just weapons grade stupid.

Yeah, I've got one for ya, Goobs.
So I bought an Apple tablet for work to use as a moving map while fighting fires. Once I bought it, I had to input my credit card information into the App Store to make various purchases, such as a particular app that shows me a thermal picture of the area that the USFS or CalFire is working in. Everything is great until one day my credit card data is stolen and I called to get a new one issued to me. However, just prior to this I noticed that the tablet was slowing down and the recommended procedure was to reset the tablet back to its' original settings.
Well.
When I logged back in and asked me for my CC information, of course that didn't match up with what Apple had on file now that I have a new card. I put in an IT request with them, all to no avail. They keep telling me that my problem is being "processed." Here I am now, four weeks in and no solution in sight. Apple is worthless as far as I'm concerned. I get that they are trying to protect themselves and their customers, but this is ridiculous.

I love the tire pressure sensors on my Hyundai. When we have a cold snap down here the idiot light goes on. DUH. Colder air is less dense, hence lower pressure. The damn things shouldn't be made THAT sensitive, but they are. The first time it happened I took the car to the dealer garage and they told me my tire pressures were a "little" low. No shit. At least they didn't charge me for that enlightening information. When I got new tires, they asked me if I wanted nitrogen in them. I said 4/5 nitrogen for free will do.

My Mustang was a base model and doesn't include my key or the premium package, and I have no issues pulling the battery cable or whatever. Most of the premium package features I don't want or like. I upgraded the stereo myself and found new Katzkins factory leather for the seats on ebay for $670 delivered. That said if I would have found a used premium packaged Mustang I liked, I would have bought it too. The problem is sometimes you need to pull the battery cable to reset the pcm, or just change the battery. Does that mean you need to spend $400 every time? I do believe you don't need to use My Key, but not positive. That would be a question for one of Mustang forums. Good luck.

As a guy who worked on auto charging/starting systems for the better part of a decade, I'd have to agree...
That locksmith is indeed weapons-grade stupid.
