Some nice looking trout there. I loved fishing small streams in upstate NY. A creel full (10) of native brook trout (8-10") was a great meal. Remember one time with my brother when we got out of the woods up near Redfield NY and there was a NY Game Warden waiting for us. I was glad I kept count.

I liked those Saturday fishing trips, Midwest version, too.
And then all the creeks became too polluted to fish. The weekends being able to drive and see everybody stake out their spot in the city will never come back.
So did your friend fry them up or release, Pickle?
Happy Birthday, O.

You want to have a ruler and keep count. I preferred bass fishing in the Thousand Islands. But there is a nice fishing hole about a half mile from me. Spent many an afternoon there.

Native brook trout are a tasty treat and very easy to debone. When I lived in the northern Catskills there was a small almost unfished stream that had a nice population of them. One time I had my oldest son with me and he caught a 10 incher whose belly was absolutely swollen. I had to see what it had eaten and cut it open. The damn thing had a snake longer than itself inside. Those fish were like fresh water barracudas. Fun to catch and great to eat.Wish I had some photos to share.

I like trout because they are pretty.
Trout - Good
Crap - Bad

I'd be afraid to eat a trout with a snake inside. That's some portent of the gods shit.
Yes, Pickle, get permission from your friend to post more pics. Then ask him when he's going to send you some.
Where I'm at, fish giveaways are normal. Salmon long as my arm, because someone wanted to make sure I ate or to say thank you. No one should be going hungry up here, with the amount of food given away by the feds during and at the end of the season, and by neighbors to each other.
People aren't starving due to lack of resources. I'd starve because I don't own a boat or nets. Non-outsiders have sadder reasons.
No one is really worried about parasites, withn my hearing range. Whale and seal both have unique tastes. Not my cup of tea, but pair well with sea greens or kelp. If I asked, someone wuld take me out on a boat; I wish I had time. I wish I could trust my swim skills. Ironically, not very many people know how to swim out here. Drownings are normal.
But anyway, your friend sucks to show you all the good eats without sending you some fresh. He can put some of that boat money aside for dry ice. Or invite you up to fish with him for a holiday.
Take pictures. Don't punk out like you did with Molly -- if he does.

On a side note....it's the pictures aren't the short flithy jew from Canada known as "Marty"....who do you think is the black hating fisherman?
There are no black people in Canada but he hates black people more than Indians? Or is he Indian, himself?
Pictures of fishing are not pictures of him.

Bass is good eating fried up with some flour.
I don't know anybody who kept carp. Carp were 'shit eaters'. Or maybe it was just the small group of black fishermen I knew who always threw carp back. Fishing was about providing a meal, not sport. Diss black men all you want, but when they were able to fish the kids weren't going hungry.
The pollution did more than aesthetic damage and PETA/eco-warrior damage. The only way to go back is shutting the cities down. Some things just have to stay in the past, and be moved on from.

I know, right?!
I didn't hate black people until I had to live with them in the army.
Oh my god....such primitive savages!
And then I graduate college and move to Newport Beach CA.....ZERO NEGROES!
I forget why I hate negroes.....
Frodo Bigun twin brother comes out to California
lives in Milwaukkee
Learns to hate negroes
I tell Frodo Bigon twin he is racist
Move back to wisconsin
chicago blacks move by hundreds of thousand to wisocnsin from chicago
Crime increases 100 percent
Go to gas station all nogs with music blasting
Go to grocery store all 500 lb nogs on food stamps
Go to bar all Nogs
Nogs tell me how easy to rob Wisconsin naive white people
Nogs....Nogs....Nogs......
Army all nogs....HATE BLACK PEOPLE!
Newport Beach...NO NOGS....Like blacks
Wisconsin...Chiciago Negro invasion...HATE nIGS AGINA!
sttttttttttttttttj@sdggggkfllllllllllllllllllllll
I'm trying to get used to always being wrong.
You've always hated black people. That's the only part of you which isn't a troll.
Why you hate blacks is plain as day in your response above. I think we don't meet your expectations. Every one of your reasons goes back to that.
I think if we did meet your expectations, your reasons for hating would be reversed. You would still hate, but the hate would come from a different angle.
What happened where you were stationed?
On Newport Beach, you were Elliot Rogers.
If your friend has no opinion on Indians, but lots of opinions on blacks, he's not Canadian.

And there's countless fish that are better eating than bass. Not saying they aren't edible, but they're nothing to write home about. Particularly largemouth. Smallmouth from cold water that feed extensively on crayfish are a different story, but they are too much fun (not to mention very slow-growing) to ever not put back.

Out here some of the best commonly available in the marker are:
ono (wahoo)
albacore
swordfish
red snapper
yellowtail
corvina
mahi mahi
grouper
rockfish (actually a catch-all name for a number if different species that inhabit the kelp beds around here)
halibut (can be pretty pricey)
and of course salmon (several types)

In all honesty, my favorite fish = fresh black sea bass
Pretty much just a small grouper. As with just about everything that comes out of water, the smaller they are, the better they taste.
Love some black sea bass as well.
Some of my favorite is the "rock fish" which you can usually get pretty cheap because they're small and sometimes hard to de-bone, but taste really good.
Grilled marinated local yellowtail for fish tacos.

Hogfish (mostly spearfished)
Cobia
Trout
Redfish
Snook (highly regulated and we usually release them anyway)
Flounder
Several of Mikey's species.
etc...
Can jump on the boat here 5 days out of 7 and come home with several dinner's worth...most of the time.
You can have that fresh water shit...(besides the Salmon, Dins)

Did a lot of fishing as a kid. Mostly panfish such as sunfish, yellow perch. All pertty good eating. Catfish are good deep fried. Never kept a carp as they were said to be horrible. I watched some show a while ago that said Asians eat the hell out of carp and that the biggest problem with them is the fukking bones are everywhere. Pretty much impossible to fillet. Of course Asians will eat more or less anything.

Lush fish, aka black fish. Thicker than salmon. Bony. Very mild taste, meat flakes off easily, prepared simply melts in your mouth like butter.
Your mileage may vary.
I've never learned to debone properly, but whatever. Nobody should eat fast anyway.

Sunfish ... homemade hush puppies and corner store cole slaw from the real part of town. Good eating on a Saturday night, back when boxing was still on regular tv.
Asians need to stop trying to eat everything raw.
