Looks like at least they're finally getting some exercise.

This is like right out of 1984 or the old USSR when history was expunged. Here in Lee (yes, Robert E.) County, there is a segment of the population that wants to eliminate him. Why were they fighting each other?

Some fought for their families and others fought for the Union who were abhorrent to the idea of owning slaves. It was a very conflicting time for some. Same internal conflict Lee had. He chose to be loyal to his state and his family that lived inside it. He was very loyal to Virginia, although it ended up costing him his legacy as an amazing General.

Yep. This is all true. There was an injunction filed back in May preventing its removal for at least six months as the Sons of the Confederacy are fighting in court to keep it standing.

The Unite the Right Rally was being held to send a message I suppose. It was stupid and it backfired. Those stupid skinhead assholes only fueled and expedited the decision to remove the Baltimore memorials.

The smart thing to do was to organize a sit in at the park and educate any and all comers who opposed the sit in about Lee and the Civil War.

What a train wreck that story turned out to be in the link JSC posted. (Not calling out JSC here, just journalism in general.)

First off a quote from that story:

Second, the headline says two permits were issued to counter protestors. Yet the story offers no mention of the permits, quotes no one from the city, and includes a press release of one of the "alleged" permitted counter protestor groups. (Alleged because the story provides no basis that they were permitted.)

Newsmen and women from generations prior are rolling over in their graves. Not the best link to use to make your point JSC, just saying.

So the more I learn about this past Saturday the more blame I place on the city and police.

They had opportunities to defuse tensions and didn't take them. They allowed the protestors to leave their permitted areas without consequence. They issued permits to both sides who tend towards violence.

Pretty big fail for the city, county, police, etc.

I am not a lawyer, but I have sat in the jury box twice. Right now the attorney from Ohio is telling and showing a far better story than is the attorney from Louisiana. The map outlining the parks and permit locations, along with the locations of the violence are pretty telling.

What's the point in counter protesting? To shout down opposing views, and take away free speech. The more news on the event the more it's apparent there were not all that many peaceful protesters in Charlotteville. Mostly just a bunch of haters, but rock throwing does't equate to 3rd degree murder with a 1.5 ton vehicle.
