The U.S. will impose new duties of as much as 30 percent on foreign-made solar equipment and as high as 50 percent on imported washing machines, the U.S. Trade Representative’s office said Monday.
Rack me for not being in the market for washers and dryers!

I'm all for solar but I think this actually may be a good thing.
"Solar installer" is supposedly the fastest growing occupation in the country right now, but the solar industry includes both installers and manufacturers. The Chinese manufacturers have been kicking our ass for years with cheap solar panels, undoubtedly government subsidized. So this new tariff, while it might slow down the growth of solar installations, might also give our domestic manufacturers a chance to catch up or at least compete on an even field.
When we installed a system about five years ago I specified American made panels. They were a little more expensive but much higher quality.

Why would you talk about dishwashers when everyone else was discussing clothes washing machines and dryers? Attention deficit disorder much? Salt air rotting what little is left of your brain?

You're probably thinking of Bosch. Anyway, Miele makes a superior product.

Screwy and his pals believe that undocumented Guatemalans are the best dishwashers.
They work cheaper.

Just another partisan hack by the Pedobear. Solar on the first go around at tariffs? What is next? Having Stormy Daniels blow coal workers for free?

On net balance, tariffs are never a good thing.
This example is no different.

This ^^^^ is spot on.
Trade wars lead to real ones.
I would agree with that, but how do you treat a product that's being dumped into the economy at prices that are subsidized by a foreign government?

The fukk you aren’t. Just not directly.
At some point this is gonna lead to your building’s owner retrofitting the quarter holding deal to take one more quarter. Fortunately they’ve made it easy as they just have to open one of the blank spaces on the existing coin holder.

Might seem like a simple answer, but from a holistic viewpoint, you
capitalize off of it. And essentially, that is what the US installation industry is doing-- taking advantage of the lower-than-cost module & BoS prices offered by the generosity and philanthropy of foreign tax payers.
By our own government intervening and artificially inflating prices of the foreign components, it hurts, locally, the currently thriving industry a lot only to help the smaller non-competitive industry a little-- again on net balance, not good.
