Sorry to have to inform you, but the Knights are going to ice-dance circles around that tired group of pole smokers.

It's going to be a very tight series. McPhee knows the Caps better than anyone else. Their former arch nemesis Fleury is having a career year. The Knights are very deep up front and are very fast. A tough combo to deal with.

But the Caps are the team of destiny. They slayed the Penguins and they crushed Tampa in the last two games of the series. The Caps and 8 want it bad and nothing is going to stop them.

It will be a great series regardless. Go Caps!

Not sure why you would say the Caps are the team of destiny? Vegas is the first year expansion team and the Mandalay shooting seemed to bring them and the community together. Add to that the first season of major professional sports in Vegas. On the flip side we have a team that has been Epcot in the regular season and baby shit soft in the playoffs for years.

But sure the Caps are the team of destiny. Agree though it should be a great series.

The Caps shed 10 seasons worth of playoff baggage by finally beating Pittsburgh so yeah they have more of that team of destiny thing going than Las Vegas. They destroyed the best team in the east in Games 6 and 7. Holtby is as hot or better than Fleury.

You're smarter about hockey than you are just about everything else in life so I'll rack your hockey takes.

Looking forward to this, should be good. Could care less about either team, Washington coming off Pittsburgh, both in their twilight years. Tampa in serious millennial fashion, thought they could just mail it in. Passionless cakes.

The Vegas story is an annoying media cliche, it would be nice to see the little engine that could, win it without someone saying, 'the little engine that could' every six seconds.

In many ways these teams are pretty even. Coaching and top line for example. In others the Caps hold the advantage, D, special teams, depth. But the one area Vegas has the advantage is in net.

A goalie can absolutely steal a game by himself. Dude goes out and stands on his head, watch out. Given how close the teams are this may just decide it.

Seeing as how the Wild are in the West and that is where I spend most of my time, I have seen Vegas play twice in person and prolly 10 or more games on TV not counting the playoffs. I have only seen the Caps play on TV in the East Final and one of the games against Pittsburgh. Didn’t see a lick of them during the regular season. So given all that picking a winner seems like a guess at best, but that is what we do. So in the interest of message board smack I will say Vegas in 7.

Holtby pitched shutouts in Games 6 and 7, when they were down 3-2. I know Fleury has been great but it doesn't get any better than that.

So maybe you are making my point. What did Holtby do in the three previous games? He gave up 10 goals and had a save % of .8crapola. Heck in game three he had a save % of .825. That will get you bounced out of the AHL to the ECHL.

Fleury has a higher save % and fewer goals allowed this post season. And that is playing with a “weaker” D corps in front of him.

Like I said I think the edge in net goes to Vegas.

Game 1 was entertaining if not great hockey. Vegas 4th line with 3 goals in the 3rd. 10 total goals scored. Both goalies in the .850 save %.

I thought the goal by Karlsson at the end of the 1st was big for Vegas so that they were tied after 1. The 2nd assist by Oshie was sick. Probably was a cross-check by Reeves, if I am calling the game. Flip side, Wilson got away with interference and that should have been a major. Dude saw clearly that the puck was gone and he was looking to just send a message. This from a guy who has already been suspended. No clue what 8 was doing at the end there. Shoot that puck and at least get it to the net, passing was clearly the wrong play.

Look for the league to tighten up the play in front of the net after this one.

Unlike Fleury, Holtby gives up way too many rebounds. Excellent play by his defense cleaning up after him is the only way he ever gets a shutout. His sloppiness will catch up with him in this series.
