I remember when there was a minor push to make Aroostook County Maine the 51st state. I think we'll stay at 57 ----errr--- 50 states for now.

There's a lot of support for this in San Diego. I'll leave it at that.

Democrats understand that they'll lose electoral votes, and they realize that they'll tax themselves into a situation that's worse than it already is. They don't mind conservatives too much when they can take their money.

Meltspray has really been struggling lately. I think he may have had a stroke.

When i moved here in 81, the political landscape was moderate, that is no longer the case. Maybe it will be again after November. The state is screwed up because of voters who vote party lines every election no matter what. The fact that 50+% of residents want to move out of state means you're going to get your wish Mikey, but be careful what you wish for. California legislators won't curb spending after the exodus. They'll just continue to tax residents more.

I think you're probably right about this. Also the definition of "liberal" vs. "conservative" has changed a lot since then, and no candidate is allowed to stray from either party's platform.

Silicon Valley is supposedly a bastion of "liberalness" but what it's really about making money and trying to feel somehow socially aware. I grew up in the middle of that when there were still some orchards scattered around. I'd be happy right now if the whole thing was razed and started over. My parents were both Republicans as was our Congressman, Pete McCloskey. Even as a Republican, McCloskey was the first Congressman to call for repeal of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the first to call for Nixon to resign after Watergate.

It’s best that if the state is going down the shitter, she’d learn from her mistakes and become more congenial towards traditional governance. The Bill isn't about succeeding. California is too big politically, what is decided in Sacramento isn't representative of citizens desires down south.

I keep harping about sanctuary states and cities, yet Democrats on this board ignore the issue. Which is why it is spreading around the country to places like Chicago and elswhere. It's one thing to lean to either party politically, it's another to be silent when the party takes a misstep.

The last time a state was split was when West Virginia was formed from Virginia.
