So back in Vegas after a few days and Uber was a 15 minute wait for a pick up at the FBO. There happened to be a taxi outside so I said screw it and got in with the Right Seater. What should have been a 5-7 minute ride to the Mandalay Bay was 20. The fare should have been less than $10. It was $23. The Right Seater turned on the map my drive function on an app on his phone. We went 7 miles further than what Waze said was the shortest route.

Dude turns and says $23. We hand him a $10 and get out. Dude comes out of the cab as well and starts getting loud. Immediately a bellman is on us and trying to calm cabby down. He is demanding we pay the meter or he will call the cops. We suggest that he does just that. Hotel security shows up and asks us what is going on. We explain. 10 minutes later a cop shows up and he talks to us and then the driver and then us again. Right Seater shows the cop the map of our drive on his phone. Cop asks the cabby where we were picked up and he says the correct FBO.

Cops says we can go, so we do. As we are walking away we hear cabby saying how it is bullshit that he gets shafted blah, blah, blah, blah.

It sucks that it came to the cops showing up, but Vegas cabbies are some of the worst around. I should have waited for the Uber the overall time would have been far less.

Fuck Taxis. Rant over.

For $13 ? Come on, it was the scenic route.

So local PD is big government? And who said any asses needed saving? We would have just walked away after giving dude his rightful fare. But if it helps you sleep better you can spin whatever narrative you like.
