Sorry, this has nothing to do with our Dealmaker in Chief.

I've been looking to redo my outdoor kitchen area for several years now, and recently had my eye on this Genesis II E-410 4-Burner Grill:

It's a nice grill at 48,000 Btu and a lot of cooking space. It has four burners arranged from left to right (or right to left) which makes it easier to use multiple zones than my old Weber, which has three burners front to back

Home Depot and Lowe's are listing this at $899, and over $1,000 on the Weber site. Stopped by Home Depot this afternoon and they have them reduced to $699, which includes assembly and full 10 year warranty. They're trying to clear these out for the end of summer. My old Weber Genesis Gold is about 15 years old and has had the guts replaced at least three times. These things last just about indefinitely but I haven't taken all that good care of it and some of the screws, etc. are starting to rust out. Plus the box is starting to warp. So, I bought one to pick up on Friday. Can't wait to try this out.

Sounds like a great deal. I bought a Genesis when we built the house 16/17 years ago. Have also replaced the guts, but take better care of mine so will not be replacing it in the immediate future. Have added a pellet smoker to my arsenal.

The stuff in the foreground and to the left is some cheap ass Chinese crap that I bought at Costco about 10 years ago. From right to left - sink, stove burner and griddle under the cover, corner section with mount for propane bottle, large grill, refrigerator, wheeled cart. They all have nice granite tops but most of the equipment lasted about one or two years and became useless. We never plumbed the sink.
Pretty much a waste of money.

In the back is a CharGriller side box smoker/grill. Cheap but a fucking workhorse.

I'm getting rid of all the Chinese crap and replacing the Weber. I'll keep the wheeled cart and maybe the granite corner piece and replace the rest with bar-height tables.

I'll probably be replacing the smoker next. It's pretty much on its last legs as well. Behind me when I took the picture is a large patio with several table and chair sets, covered by our magic energy producing shade tree with the pool off to the left. It will be nice to have a bar table and some stools to sit at or use for buffet style serving.

May I suggest that you look over a Napoleon grill? I’ve got a 4 burner with a separate sear section, and came with a rotisserie, a pizza stone, cooking utensils, and a cover. Sadly, it is all in storage right now, but hopefully soon it’ll see the glorious light of day, whereupon I will joyously burn meat and crow loudly to the heavens that I am once again lord and master of the backyard.

I just looked those Napoleons up on the bbq guys website. It looks like they have some impressive units, though maybe a little pricey.

While at Home Depot today I also checked out a KitchenAid grill that has a sear station on one side shelf and a side burner on the other side. It was about $200 more than the Weber. I actually prefer the simple but solid Weber. That Chinese POS in my picture actually has an infrared ceramic sear station inside the main grill as well as an infrared rear burner. I never really figured out how to use them correctly and they stopped working after not too long. It also has a stove burner and a griddle next to the sink, which I used maybe two or three times. All those bells and whistles, I realized, are for me just something to break down. I feel like I can accomplish just about anything I want to do with good even heat and controls that work.

To tell you the truth, if I'm cooking a steak or most other meats I use the charcoal CharGriller, which I think cost under $200 and can smoke as well as grill. I can throw a chunk of hardwood right on the fire once it gets going to impart that nice smoky flavor. If I'm grilling fish I'll use the Weber because it gets hotter and it's easier to keep the grates clean. Also veggies, or roasts and stuff that require well controlled indirect heat.

To me, Weber is a known quantity. I've been buying their products for probably 40 years starting with the ubiquitous charcoal kettle grill. I've had both natural gas and propane versions of the Genesis. They make a high quality product that they stand behind. I called them up once about 10 years ago to ask how I could replace some rusted out burners and they sent me a complete overhaul kit including burners, valves, and "flavor bars" no questions asked.

A co-worker has a friend that works at a local distributor of high-end appliances. He was able to score a $6,000 Viking grill for $700. It was a floor model with a missing knob that was easy to replace. Now that's a deal I could go for. But I don't think I'll ever spend $6,000 on a grill.

Any way you do it, outdoor grilling is the way to go. Better flavor and easier clean up. Get your Napoleon out of jail ASAP and have some fun!

10 warranty?? How limited is that ?? Most units shit the bed at 5 years.

10 years, all parts, excluding "normal wear and tear."

Just got this from the owner's manual. Pretty decent coverage. It's usually the burners, grates and flavorizer bars that rust through.

Things are starting to come together. I may get another of those tables and move things around. The smoker is probably going to be replaced next week.

I wish I could bust out the grill and cook some meat, but sadly that is not to be for at least another 9 to 11 months. We sold our home and became full time RVers (again) back when the job situation was changing monthly. Fortunately that is now behind us, but until I return from unmentioned places we won’t be buying a house anytime soon. In the meantime I have parked my better half out on the West coast in a safe and secure location while I am gone. At least Airstream living is reasonably comfortable and she is a half mile from the Pacific, so the air quality and temperatures are perfect.

You could do a lot worse than an Airstream near the Pacific.

We're taking a roadie up Paso Robles and then to Monterey in September for the wife's birthday. Really looking forward to that.

That is an absolute fact. We’ve traveled all over this country at all times of the year with our previous Airstream and while most places have something particularly nice about them, there usually is a downside attached to them as well. However, SoCal in the summer is truly outstanding for both the air and the temperatures and other than a bajillion ground squirrels running around undoubtedly infected with Hanta virus, there is nothing bad about where she’s at. To top it all off, our newly born first grandchild, a granddaughter, is living a mile away being cared for by our surrogates, her Mom & Dad. The only thing missing is our dogs, the last of whom passed away in July.

But life is truly good.
