The Asian can turn a television into a watch

Post by Softball Bat »

Chinese boy makes ‘electric car’ by hand

What can you do with 620 yuan if you were an 11-year-old? Shao Zijin from Quzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province,
used such an amount of money to make himself a karting-like vehicle this summer holiday. Shao who dreams of
becoming an inventor...

Btw, 620 yuan is about 90 bucks.

Nice going, Shao!

There aer a number of "tadpole" e-bike models out there which should be everywhere now. They can be made very cheaply and would go a long ways towards solving our fuel consumption problems.

I suspect you will, and prolly already are seeing them in places like China where capitalism is alive and well.

You are not seeing them here because our still draconian vehicle regulatory system will not allow them. There are all sorts of rules regarding max power out put for unregistered vehicles and it is near impossible to get a new vehicle to pass the mountain of regulation which would allow legal registration.

And before you go to the "what do you want, dangerous vehicles on the road?" We already have them.

They are called motorcycles.

Perfectly legal for an 18 year old kid to go down to the Kawasaki store and buy a 500lb, 150 hp implement of death.

But that's OK. Kawasaki has paid off the regulatory mafia. They are in and can do it. The guy that wants to cobble together a lightweight cheap 1000 watt e-trike is forbidden. It exceeds power limitations for "unregistered" vehicles.

If the automobile industry tried to get off the ground in this country, today, we'd all still be walking/riding horses.

Because you can't put a go-kart on American highways, a new car maker will find it impossible to get their cars to market?

Where are you going to drive a vehicle like that? It's too slow, too low, and totally lacking any sort of protection for the rider to safely operate on the street. You want them sharing the sidewalks with pedestrians? You could maybe safely drive one on a bike path.

Are you arguing that motorcycles should be outlawed? The most dangerous vehicles on our roads are semis. Truck drivers used to be the best, most polite drivers on the road. Now they're some of the worst. They're either blocking traffic in the left lane, or tailgating in the right. DMFOTI.

What I am babbling about is that a small light simple vehicle can not be brought to market due to onerous levels of regulation.

The only was hybrids or EVs are currently viable is through government subsidies.

The major manufacturers like this system as it keeps new guys out, unless they are gubmint darlings like Musk.

The "onerous levels of regulation" are designed to keep people safe. Same reason that bicycles are not allowed on interstates. You really are incredibly stupid.

No, motorcycles should not be banned.

My point is that simple light weight vehicles should not be banned because their makers don’t have the resources to put them through millions of dollars worth of testing.

Ever hear of the Edison 2 VLC?

And there is plenty others. If you funks really did give a shit about using previous resources, you’d be for it too. But like good little Marxists, you’ve never seen a regulation you didn’t like.

I've heard the latest Tesla prototype has a 1.9 0-60, and top speed of 250mph, and a 600+ mile range. Whether you like green shit or not, that is some SERIOUS haul ass.
In 3 years the 0-60 will be 4.1 seconds, max speed 125 and range will be 300 miles. Still good, but in 9 years it'll be ready for srap. Battery technology isn't where it needs to be for me to consider one.

Motorcycles are able to maintain the same speed as automobiles and are much more visible than little 3 hp scooters. Motorcycles are compatible with street traffic. 15 mph scooters are not. And these little scooters are not even remotely comparable with your Edison 2 VLC, which is roughly the same size as a compact car and can travel over 100 mph. You really are this fucking stupid.

I am not saying that there should not be restrictions to high speed limited access highways.

Motorcycles are exempt from crash standards.

If crash standards are so fuming important, why are they exempt?

If they can be, so should other vehicles.

A bicycle can be legally operated, but add more than 49 cc of motor or add multiple wheels and now it has to adhere to massive levels of regulation. This blocks small entrepreneurs from bringing vehicles to market.

It is yet another example of big corporations blocking out little guys and a major reason why some businessmen are democrats.

If someone wants to market a vehicle they should be allowed to. If it does not meet crash standards, publish that fact, but don’t ban them. Let the buyer take that risk, as he already can with a motorcycle.

You never attempt to reason. You do what libs in general do. Call someone an idiot or a racist.

The point I am making is that we should be seeing small, simple, lightweight vehicles that get crazy mileage and are affordable. Such vehicles wouldn't be a few pieces of scrap lumber nailed together.

But where are they?

Why didn't the VLC make it to market? It is an awesome design and doubles or triples the Prius' efficiency.

It isn't out there because road going vehicles pretty much a closed market in this country due to regulation. And Ford?GM/Toyota/etc don't want to see this change.

About the only attempt at an answer you throw between calling me an idiot is safety or can't keep up with traffic argument.

Safety is a bullshit argument and I give you any of the 100+HP sport bikes for sale to anyone with the money, as evidence that it is perfectly legal to sell suicidal vehicles.

There are other examples of simple lightweight designs out there that never seem to get past the prototype stage.

Why is that?

My guess is that they take a look at the mountain of regulatory BS in front of them and walk away.

Another interesting one is Elio. They have been trying like hell to get into production, but looks like they are spinning their wheels. There are charges of incompetence and corruption within the organization. These may very well be true, but should have been solved by now.

I think it comes down to one thing. It is a closed club. There are the existing major manufacturers who see to it that entrance into their club is very pricey. I don't much care for Elon Musk and think his primary skill is in hyping his shit and getting the gubmint and others to cough up dough. But I gotta give him a rack for at least getting over well enough to get cars out the door. I would like to see someone else do it with something more along the lines of the VLC.
