I’ve been wrong about AGW all along.

It turns out that man is far more dangerous and destructive a creature than I ever could have imagined. After years of denying that mere human beings could somehow influence our world and our disasterous role in the warming of our planet, I have come to confess that I was wrong. And how wrong have I been?

Well, we have some roughly 7.4 billion people on this globe, all of whom are inflicting a terrible price on our earthly home. So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the twelve astronauts who once tread across our Moon have caused that piece of rock to heat up. Really, no kidding. Apparently their presence upset the delicate balance of heat distribution on the Moon and caused it to warm to an extent our sensors picked up the increase in temperature.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... r-mystery/

”But the newly recovered tapes reveal that heat traveled all the way from the lunar surface to the bottoms of the boreholes, ruling out every explanation except for surface disturbance by the astronauts. As they explored the moon, their footprints and rover tracks compressed and darkened its surface. “It was the [absorption of] sunlight from where the astronauts were walking around that caused the moon to get hotter in those specific locations,” says study co-author Walter Kiefer of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston.”

The obvious conclusion is if a dozen men on the Moon who weigh a fraction of their Earthly selves can produce such long term and irreversible damage, how much more are we capable of destroying this precious green and blue jewel set in the vastness of space with our SUVs, Mrs. Rumplestiltskins, Buttsprays, and the enormous and heavy ignorance of the Flat Earthers like Poptart? It boogles the mind how our delicate global home has managed to survive all these millenia with us stomping around and heating up the Earth’s surface.

Ponderous.

That’s it. I’m turning over a new (green) leaf. Tomorrow I am going to my local county office and registering as a bonafide Green Party member and purchase a year’s subscription to the Sierra Club’s magazine. I might even go on a Greenpeace “Save the Whales” nautical trip.

Anthropogenic Global Warming.

It is the theory that people are contributing to the warming of our planet. Of course in common usage it's just simply called global warming. But the first rule of being a climate change denier is to use as many acronyms as possible.

The first rule to being a "denier", is to actually look at data. All the data. And to look at historical evidence that says "yup, it gets warmer for a while, then it gets colder, then it gets warmer". A lot colder and warmer than what we've recorded in the blink of an eye we've been recording it.

One thing that we can say is that there appears to be some sort of master regulator in place that has kept us in a pretty narrow temp range that is compatible to life. If temps went 30-40 degrees more in either direction, we'd be all kinds of fukked up.

As to what that regulator is, maybe it's some old, prolly jewish dude with a long beard, but I think it's just dumb luck that our particular layout with Oceans and land masses positioned in such a way that it regulates itself.

The question is, are we capable of mucking that system up? I have heard some pretty smart motherfukkers that have studied the topic say "nope". It's regulating ability exceeds our ability to fukk it up. He said it pretty much comes down to water vapor. As the planet heats, there is more. And it has a tempering effect on things. Warm places cool, cool places warm. And somehow, it keeps things in a pretty good balance.

It’s terrifying to come face-to-face with the realization that all that we have known and believed is simply not true. And now there is proof that global warming— AGW for us (former) climate denying acronym bandying SOBs —is a real thing and not just a boogeyman invented by hippies trying to wrest control of our industry, political system, and American way of life from us in exchange for patchouli oil, hemp, and some quartz crystals.

It’s all so clear to me now!!! Count me as a true disciple of Al Gore and his inconvenient truths.

More like 2 degrees either way. And we've already gotten to one degree.

You and I both would be sitting under a few miles of ice, 50,000 years ago. So, there's been way more than 2 degrees swing. 600 years ago, the Vikings were farming in Greenland.

So, I do believe we have had a good deal more than 2 degrees swing. I did not say there was 30-40 degrees swing. I said that were there that sort of swing, which really, when you look at the temp spectrum in the solar system, is not much of a swing, we'd be seriously fuct.

So, we've had a degree over the last century, maybe. An unanswered question is whether or not, in the long term, is this good.

For Canada, it is most certainly good. Same goes for a giant chunk of Asia. For the US, it's likely more mixed. Minnesota becomes nicer, south Texas, not so much. In the end, cold kills way more people than heat does. I suspect that the long term result is a good bit of North America and Asia have increased vegetation due to longer growing season and more CO2 in the air. Properly managed, this is a good thing.

This really is 4th grade science type stuff.

I looked it up. Looks like about a 10 degree C shift. So, close to 20F.

Wayyyyy more than 2.

I’d like to point out that if you take AGW and add in the Moon, it makes the acronym MAGV, which is awfully close to MAGA. Coincidence? Bsmack, I’d like your thoughts on this.
