Tiger Woods is a professional golfer. He hits a little white ball around a lush green golf course for a living. And he’s arguably the best to ever play the game.

So why are the social justice warriors of the world suddenly trying to embroil him in some sort of political turmoil? Why does a reporter from The New York Times want to know what Tiger Woods thinks about President Trump, about immigrants who feel “threatened” by him, about “race relations” in America?

The whole gotcha game played out Sunday, after Mr. Woods had just completed his final round at a PGA Tour event in New Jersey. Answering questions from the media, sweat still pouring down his forehead, Mr. Woods was asked: “Your relationship with Donald Trump, how would you describe that personally and professionally?”

“I’ve known Donald for a number of years,” he said. “We’ve played golf together. We’ve had dinner together. And so, yeah, I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency.”

The writer — of course from The New York Times — followed up.

“At a time, especially 2018, I think a lot of people, especially people of color, immigrants feel threatened by him, by his policies. He’s thrown himself in sports debates in terms of race with [NBA player] LeBron James, with the [national] anthem. What do you say to people who might find it interesting, I guess, that you have a friendly relationship with him?”

Mr. Woods then delivered the most diplomatic of answers.

“Well, he’s the president of the United States and you have to respect the office. And no matter who’s in the office, you may like, dislike the personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” Mr. Woods said............Everybody was pretty much OK with Mr. Woods’ answer — everybody but ESPN’s Max Kellerman. ESPN, you’ll recall, has been hemorrhaging viewers, especially after the network began dabbling in partisan politics (Case in point: Last year, ESPN star Jemele Hill famously called Mr. Trump a “white supremacist.”)

Mr. Kellerman’s co-host, Stephen A. Smith, simply declared that Mr. Woods is “not black.” Huh?

.........We live in silly times. In 2018, a reporter from a (once) respected newspaper can ask a sweaty pro golfer what he thinks about race relations in America. And then we’re all supposed to get up in arms about whatever his answer is. Then another guy on a liberal TV network can disparage the golfer because he didn’t give the answer that HE wanted.

Strike “silly times.” Make that “stupid times.”

What's interesting is this story doesn't appear at all on ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc. It does appear on a lot of conservative websites though. I had to search quite a bit to find a reputable source that wouldn't be dismissed by our resident Democrats.

I'm also sure if Tiger had something disparaging to say about Trump, the story would be covered by leftist news media.

Serena Williams returned from maternity leave in the most epic, fiercest fashion: a black catsuit.

"All the moms out there that had a tough pregnancy and had to come back and try to be fierce, in the middle of everything," she told Tennis Channel analyst Jon Wertheim after her first round win at the 2018 French Open in May. "That's what this represents, and it's exciting. You can't beat a catsuit, right?"

French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli thinks otherwise — he imposed a dress code Friday to regulate the players' uniforms. It seems as if Williams' suit, which she said helped in her battle against blood clots and made her feel like a "superhero," was the motivation behind the new rules.

"It will no longer be accepted," Giudicelli said about Williams' catsuit in an interview with Tennis magazine. "One must respect the game and the place."

He justified the ban by saying, "I think that sometimes we've gone too far."

In a time when women are speaking up and reclaiming power over their bodies, such a constraint seems out of touch, especially in professional sports where female athletes' livelihoods are based on the physical performance — and thus overall look — of their bodies.

For black women, who live at the intersection of two oppressed identities, this topic brings up deeper implications.

"We've heard about the overweight, mammy figure, and black women being over-sexualized," said Abi Ishola, editor-in-chief and founder of Beyond Classically Beautiful, an online platform designed to celebrate black women's beauty. "It's like we've been treated like cattle in certain ways, and then overlooked at the same time. It's just too many extremes."

Ishola started her website and photo series of black women after a New York Times article called actress Viola Davis "less classically beautiful." Ishola was exasperated.

"I was like this has gone too far, we can't exist in our skin without being picked apart."

The black female body has historically been cast in one of two lights: an obese mammy-caricature figure only suitable for child-bearing, or a hypersexual deviant who needs to be tamed. Giudicelli singling out Williams and her suit, specifically as a way to incite a dress code, would fall under the latter.

"Serena has a natural body type," said Ishola. "She's strong, she's solid, she's beautiful and there's nothing wrong with her body. For someone to say her wearing a certain thing is disrespectful to a place or game is discriminatory. It's not like she's bringing some contraband, she's bringing herself."

It's not far fetched to assume Williams' physique, a beautiful and direct result of her countless hours of hard work in training, played a role in Giudicelli's decision.

If her powerful thighs, hamstrings and butt were thinner — and therefore less accentuated by the spandex suit — would Giudicelli still think that "we've gone too far"?

If her biceps were smaller, her torso leaner, her hair in a silky, swinging ponytail instead of a cornrow-braided-bun, would Giudicelli then think she is "respecting the game and the place"?

"It's because of her curves, more than likely, that people have come after her like this," said Ishola.

Ishola also noted the inconsistency of Giudicelli's decision based on standard tennis outfits.

"They wear short skirts that have reached the runways even, there's nothing new about that. Athletes wear shorts, leotards, these are the things we traditionally see athletes wearing," she said.

With 23 Grand Slam titles under her belt — three of which come from the competition Giudicelli governs — the most of any modern era tennis player, male or female, it's ubiquitous that Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Ishola wonders if Williams' excelling in a traditionally homogenous sport plays a role in Giudicelli singling her out.

"It's odd that Serena mentioned that the suit is something that made her feel like a warrior, that it gave her courage," said Ishola. "It's almost like to them she's a freak of nature and it's problematic. It feels like with her being so great, that this decision is trying to detour her from something that makes her feel powerful."

"Let her just be," Ishola said. "Just let her exist freely."

Williams' body is a physical representation of all that she has achieved. Yes, she has trophies, but her body is what she controls and wields in order to earn those accolades; her power is that no one, and nothing — not even a dress code — can take that away from her.
