So last summer I started participating in a program with a couple of local elementary schools where I send emails and skype with classrooms on an ongoing basis. The students are learning geography and they find my location on a globe or map. Sometimes they have already studied the location and other times our conversations are kicking off their lesson on the area/country. The kids ask some questions and we discuss how I got there, what the weather is like, what are the people like, etc. It is fun for me and the teachers have been expanding this to other classrooms in their school districts. If any of you travel a decent amount I will be happy to hook you up with the teacher who runs point on this.


Here are a few of the things/locations where I have "dropped" in on the kids. Call it the Seater the Teacher PET.


Last September we took my in-laws to Cabo to fish for my Father in Law's 75th Birthday















Then we went to Des Moines and Ames Iowa with a group of people from the wife's MBA program for a Texas vs ISU game:









In November we were in Florida. We saw an airshow and some cool sunsets.





In late December we went to Europe for our 20th wedding anniversary.






















Copenhagen


In February we went to Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise to ski and hike.
On frozen Lake Louise












In April we took in a few sporting events.






The wife with the Valero Texas Open Mascot Fable, in her company's suite at the Friday rounds.


In May we went with friends to Costa Rica




Apparently Mikey's racoon isn't the only one that likes swimming pools


In June we went to a wedding in Cancun. This was the view outside our room each of the 4 days we were there.




So after days of rain we decided to visit Tulum despite the rain and wind.


June was also conference meetings for football.


August had us back in Colorado as my wife and her best friend ran in two half marathons.




We also did a good bit of hiking including to Hanging Lake outside of Aspen.




In September we visited Washington DC.

Last month brought pre-season hockey and I helped out at a couple of games including Minnesota vs St Louis.












Earlier this month it was back to Denver for work. The wife came out for a few days as well and we did more hiking.








Clients gave the Right Seater and I tickets to the MNF game vs the Chiefs.

The French folks in Chamonix really had no clue what to make of the large man in shorts while it was snowing. Heard this a good bit, “Que tu as froid ?” When I shook my head in the negative they were shocked.

One quick question: Seeing the picture of a Prius with a trailer hitch on the back has always made me laugh because I once owned a Gen 1 Prius and I can’t imagine it being able to pull anything. How much can a newer model tug along on the highway?

As for me, I’d love to post some of the pictures of places and things I’ve seen or done, but between the security protocols, NDAs, grim and gruesome scenes, and stuff to give kids nightmares about, you wouldn’t want me to become a itinerant school teacher. Kids would never leave the house. All in a day’s work I say!

Yeah, that’d be about the limit of what a Prius can haul!

BTW, the electric motor of the current Prius generates about the same horsepower as a Corolla.

The turtle egg laying probably took no more that 15 minutes. Took the hotel staff longer to carefully uncover them and put them in the trays. Before they even finished two ladies from the aquarium had arrived and took over the “stealing” of the eggs. The ladies from the aquarium also took a few GPS notes about the nests location.

So why are they "borrowing" the turtle eggs?

Very nice. I'm glad you take the time to enjoy nature on your travels. There is nothing better than getting out on a trail for a few hours.
