No Hobgoblins either?

None here. Poorly lit area, moderate traffic and no sidewalks equal no trick or treaters at casa de Smack. A big change from my old hood.

We had 32---about half a usual number. Leaves us with a cauldron of mini candy bars. I'll consume some, Mrs.O can make cookies from some, and others will go to our Grandchildren at Christmas.

I have had none other than grandkids in 32 years at home. Maybe it is the concertina wire, floodlights and Claymores that keep them away.

I did go up town to hand out apples from our Lodge building, and noticed that this event has gotten more white trash in the past couple of years. This year the number of nice ass moms dressed like sluts seemed down quite a bit, taking the amusement factor way out.

I went home and two of the grandkids came over, I opened the door they came in and I dumped the entire bowl of candy in both their buckets. Mom had a fit, but the kids thought it was pretty cool. Dumped their buckets out on the living room floor and started sorting it.

200 ft uphill driveway, 300 ft between houses, no lights it’s just not worth the effort around here. When the kids were young we used to go to the in-laws house for Halloween where they could collect some candy without killing themselves. We got a big bag of candy from Costco but I’ll be taking whatever we don’t eat tonight to the office in the morning.

Halloween has become an adult’s holiday, an opportunity to act out in the vein of Carnival or Mardi Gras. Between helicopter parenting and our national obsession with safety, to let children walk around knocking on strangers’ doors free range-style is becoming almost unthinkable now. It’s a sad commentary on our times.

Kids don't just show up to play anymore, so why let them trick or treat?
