ZZ Top-- I'm going to cut across the grain and say "Rough Boy." There's a ton of their stuff I like, but the harmonics on the guitar and the crunchier deep notes are more subtle than much of their other, catchier music.

Grateful Dead-- In truth, I don't know that I have ever listened to anything they've ever put out from start to finish. Just don't care for them.

Stevie Wonder-- "Superstition"

Nirvana-- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and most of everything they produced.

Fleetwood Mac-- Nothing. Utter ear worm music, pure suck ass shit.

Allman Brothers-- More stuff I don't listen to.

Steely Dan-- Jazz married to pop music. And I hate jazz.

Bee Gees-- What's with all these craptastic groups? Awful.

Talking Heads-- The only one I can think of is "Burning Down the House" and I'd probably tune to a different station if I heard it on the radio.

Heart-- "Barracuda." I always liked how one of those sisters did that high kick thing while playing the guitar. Their ballads sucked though.

Obviously, most of the above would not be considered signature songs, but rather songs I like by them. The true sig tunes would be:

ZZ Top - "La Grange"
The Grateful Dead - "Truckin'"
Stevie Wonder - "Superstition"
Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

The Allman Brothers - "Ramblin' Man"

Kind of a limited premise isn’t it? Like asking who’s your least favorite NFC North team.

I'd characterize it as an error if I initially didn't understand what was being asked, but I did, so I'm guiltier of intentionally answering a question that wasn't asked rather than committing an error. I'll defend my first response by saying that the definition of signature song could be "the song you think of first when that band/artist is mentioned." In that case, my first response was accurate. But the more accepted definition would probably be "the song you believe most people would think of first," in which case, the second response applies.

But I'll accept it as an error, since I've made more of 'em than a one-handed shortstop.

For "signature" song, it kind of depends on how old you are for some of these.

I'd say definitely La Grange for ZZ Top
Truckin' for the Dead
My Old School or Bodhisattva for Steely Dan
Stevie Wonder could be My Cherie Amor, You are the Sunshine of My Life, Superstition, I Wish or about half a dozen others that could be considered signatures.
Fleetwood Mac - anything from the first album with Buckingham/Nicks
Allman Brothers -Statesboro Blues just because it starts the Filmore East album
Bee-Gees - Stayin' Alive

The rest...I don't know.

That is reason enough. One of the best live albums ever.

Why the fukk did dooooo Wayne ride motorcycles?

Imagine how many more Epcot concert albums we could have been treated to.

Ohhh, and I was getting ready to take a drive to WNY to punch BSmack in the face for his ZZ pick, then I read Smackies post about signature/favorite and decided against it.

Once again, SC, the T1B voice of reason, saves the day.

Money. Also Mikey's comment - For "signature" song, it kind of depends on how old you are for some of these. That would explain someone thinking The Grateful Dead's signature song could possibly be Touch of Grey.

That's how I understand a signature song.

It is not necessarily an artist's best work, and in many (or most?) cases it isn't.

But people can have their own understanding of what a signature song is.

It makes for interesting conversation.
