Baby Boom Generation. The term "Baby Boom" is used to identify a massive increase in births following World War II. Baby boomers are those people born worldwide between 1946 and 1964, the time frame most commonly used to define them. The first baby boomers reached the standard retirement age of 65 in 2011.

I was born in 1960 and have always considered myself to be just on the outside of the end of the boom.
At any rate, by some standards, I am included.

I reckon that most who post here are included in the boomer generation.

Born in a "feel good" time on the heels of WWII triumph, this generation tended to be very idealistic and culturally sensitive.
Now we are aging and heading to retirement and -----> death.

My question here is, what has this generation (as a whole) accomplished?

How do you see it?

They destroyed public higher ed in the US, for starters. Also mastered the use of NIMBY to artificially restrict housing supply.

Got to include the milliennals in there too, are they Gen X ? I have never heard so much bitching about the previous generation from a group of self entitled cunts.

My thoughts of my parents generation are that they were the hardest working, the most sacrificing, the most bad ass on the battlefield, and that they were able to give us kids the best possible upbringing, and that they deserved the meager retirements that most of them got. Not what they did not do for us.

And you and your ilk flushed it down the toilet. Nice job.

I was born in 1939. I guess that was before people obsessed about generations. We pretty much did what we needed to do to get an education and occupation, did our duty for country, kept away from drug abuse and crime, married and stayed that way.

You were born 4 years after Ken Kesey and 1 year before John Lennon. Wanna rethink that drug abuse comment?

Yours is referred to as the The Silent Generation, described as unimaginative, withdrawn, unadventurous, and cautious. Congrats on that.

Like in 1951, when they wrote that?

Being critical of the boomers, I would say this...

They grew up in overall social stability, peace, and affluence -- kind of grew up with an understanding that their shit don't stink.
And they have proceeded to form culture in their image for their entire existence.
Overly self-important and self-indulgent.

Our political system is fractured and stressed.
The U.S. Constitution has been trampled on for decades.
The U.S. used to produce things -- but now what? Porn? That's it.
Morality and traditional faith in God -- where is it? Must be here somewhere...
The national debt the boomers have run up is so far beyond ridiculous that there really isn't an adequate adjective for it.

The boomers have pretty much shit the bed.
Really.

I'm sure I could type out some positives, but it is hard to overlook these negatives.
