NWS stumped by 50-mile long stream on radar



We are still trying to figure out exactly what is showing up on radar tonight. Been going strong for 5 hrs now.
If anyone in the Owensboro or Madisonville areas notices anything overhead or falling into their yards within
next 30 min, please let us know. It is not precipitation.

The leading theory is chaff that originated in far southern Richland County IL around 2:50 PM this afternoon.

I dunno what it is, but one thing I do know and that is it’s a direct result of manmade climate change. After all, we’ve never seen this before and like 88, if there’s one thing I’ve learned here since SC3, the past 100 years provides a sufficient snapshot of mankind’s impact on weather to definitively place the blame for such an occurance squarely on our overuse and dependency on fossil fuels.
