I have spent a good bit of time in Europe both for work and vacation.
Have you been before? Do you like cities or more rural destinations? What is your comfort level with driving in foreign countries?

Ukraine is racist. Pretty much all of Eastern Europe is racist.
The rest of Europe is too, but they hide it better. The Germans are so fukking ashamed of their racism that they are bending over backwards to not be racist, inviting in the entire 3rd world. It will likely be their end. sad.

Never been. The bucket list was the Isle of Man, Iceland, Estonia, Czechoslovakia, Greece, the Trans-Siberian Railroad, and maybe Hungary just because of the language's rep as the hardest language in the world to learn. I figure it'd be like sliding to a parallel universe to be in a room of native speakers. But whatever.
Definitely rural. Being in a city is cool, but I figure the temptation not to move outside comfort zones is too great.
Driving depends on safety.

For me the best would be summer June 20th in Oslo or St Petersburg Russia June 20th
Longest sunlight of the year....it never gets dark.
St Petersburg Russia has Festival of the Light...but you don't speak russian

Regarding safety: Yeah. No one wants to end up like the two young women beheaded in Morocco, or the bicyclists beheaded in Tajikistan -- or the two young Dutch women murdered in Panama. There is no safe backpacking/exploring discretely for women. The world sucks.
But the world is also beautiful. I'll still take your comment as a warning against Russia. :| Being American isn't a bit of plot armor, globally, anymore?
