.38 is an OK gun. Revolver so pretty much fool proof. My wife has a .38 S&W feather weight, because she does not really dig semi's. I have a early .357 / which you can shoot .38 in. The .357 loads are a lot more fun and packs some pretty good punch.

I'm not some gun guru but a 243 in a pistol seems a bit much, unless you're hunting deer or antelope.

Shotguns have long used ported barrels.

It does reduce recoil.

Ok at the range, but not as much value in the field.

I've been looking at the S&W 586 L-Comp 357 Mag, but I'm not so sure about the port in the barrel.



The port is supposed to help with recoil, but supposedly they are much louder and also have more muzzle flash. I don't know, I've never shot one. Anyone shot from a ported barrel?

Not in a .357. I can see where a top port would work real well to keep the barrel rise down, which you are going to have with a short barrel and that powder load. The short barrel is inaccurate in most cases, belly gun for use inside of 10 yards. Deadly has hell in that range though. My son has a muzzle break on an AR and it push's muzzle pressure out to the sides, don't stand in line with barrel.

If you buy it I would be interested to know how that port works.
