I just got my new company PC, in the process of moving all the files now.
After I'm done, I'll want to shred everything - anyone have a link to a good shredding program?
I used to use BC wipe, but can't find it anymore.
TIA

Yank out your hard drive and put a couple of sheet metal screws through it.

15 seconds in a microwave will fuck it up good too.

While those are all worthy ideas, sometimes you may want to pass the computer on, especially if it never had anything super secret on it to begin with.
In this case, you may be interested in a program called "Darik's Boot and Nuke" or 'DBAN' for short. This program supports the DoD 5220-22.M Standard amongst others. This particular standard requires 7 passes and it will write it over every bit with a 0, a 1 or a mix of random characters.
So whats so nice about DBAN? For one, its completely free and open source. It has been around for years and its used by a number of government agencies. One feature that isn't implemented as far as I know is SCSI support. If you have a SCSI hard drive you are screwed and will need to most likely buy a program to clean it.
DBAN

Thanx Taco - I did find BC Wipe - But might run DBAN as well.
I'm not sure what the company does with these boxes when they go off lease, my guess is they are sold, hence the need to make sure information gets scrubbed.
