Fag bashing

I was at a family dinner this week. About 10 people were there and one of them was a cousin of mine that I rarely see. We were all at the dinner table having light conversation and then out of nowhere this cousin of mine said, "I was reading in the newspaper this week about a trend at the local high school called fag bashing. A group of guys just decided to beat the crap out of a homosexual for no reason. This is horrible." And then he just sat there, while all of us just sat there quietly. I was thinking, "What are you talking about, dude? Why are you saying this? Are you a fag?" It was awkward and I just wanted to get up and go away from the scene.
Why do people do this shit? What's with the fag conversation? I don't get it.

It's no different from a few years ago in the Democrat socialist cities where blacks and Hispanics played "the knockout game". Looking specifically for whites to knock out.
