The entire situation is tragic. One of my sons attended Kent State for a year before transferring to Ohio State. We went to the memorial and saw the layout of the land. This didn't happen in a vacuum. An ROTC building had been burned to the ground, and bottles and rocks and all kinds of other shit had been hurled at the guardsmen. And there was apparently some crazy fucker with a handgun popping off rounds before the volley of shots by the guardsman. That doesn't justify shooting into a crowd by any means. But you can see how something awful like that could happen.
