Interesting Take on Rona Flu

So as I was driving back to the airport in Chicago I stopped the scan on a radio station that had a doctor talking about the stay at home orders. Her take was that we screwed up the stay at home stuff across the country and we shouldn't have done it all at once across the US.
She said NY, NJ, CT, MA, WA, CA and a couple others were too slow to start their stay at home orders. At the same time other states were far too quick to issue their own stay at home orders. Southern states and TX, AZ and NM should not have started their stay at home orders until late April and they should be coming out of them now. Other mid-west states should have fallen somewhere in between these two ends.
She also said that people really can only be expected to stay at home for 8-10 weeks at the most. After that it is just not going to work as people want to get out. She also said she realized that this is all hindsight and that once a few states issued stay at home orders, almost all other states would have to follow or be ridiculed.
She also called out the CDC for their early position on masks saying they didn't help. She thought that was a direct lie by the CDC to let hospitals and healthcare facilities get mask orders in place first. Then once sufficient time had passed they changed their guidance as it should have been all along.
Interesting takes and looking at it now it makes some sense to me.

I basically agree with both of these takes.
Situations can be quite different from state-to-state.

Yeah, it makes sense to me.
Would anyone follow stay at home orders at this point?

If there was money and facebook likes attached to it. Or if the government said everyone has to leave their homes and not return for 8 weeks.
We are a nation of contrarians. We do what we want.

I haven’t read the Facebooks so have no clue on that.
Paying people? Sure that will work for some but not all. Young and elderly people especially.
Don’t know how you force people out of their homes unless you want to start a war.

It probably depends on who you are and where you live.

Yes, smart people would.
Dumbasses and Trump supporters, though these are largely interchangeable, will not.

You really believe the protesters outside city hall will up and leave if NYC re-issued a stay at home order? The Chicago rioters ignored the curfew, but they would suddenly say oh ok we better listen now?

Yes, if police temporarily halt their practice of murdering unarmed suspects pre-trial, they will. You seem to believe protesters violatd stay at home orders for fresh air and exercise. We in the District didn't even have a strict stay at home order at the end of May either.

So they are rioting over the 28 unarmed killed by police last year or just the 9 balck ones?
And take your claim up with the scientists who keep saying there is a shelf life to stay at home orders

The fact that NY, NJ are doing better now, while states that had very low exposures early on are seeing surges makes perfect sense.
And it isn't because they opened up.
It is just that NY is getting close to herd immunity, FL and TX aren't.
And herd immunity is what gets you through this BS, not locking everything down. NY locked down early and still got their shit pushed in. And FL and TX deaths are still a small fraction of NY.
Had we simply concentrated efforts on protecting the vulnerable while the rest of us depended on functional immune systems to do battle with this bug, we'd all be past it by now. And I suspect we might have even had a lower death toll. NY and MA definitely would have as they were criminally neglectful in protecting the vulnerable, which is sort of understandable when you put all your effort into harrassing a shul in brooklyn rather than protecting the rest homes.

Let me help you out a bit.
The problem is leadership.
Australia (right wing fed. government) = 25 million people, 104 Covid deaths.
New Zealand (left wing fed. government) = 5 million people, 22 Covid deaths
Michigan (democrat gov.) = 10 million people, 5951 Covid deaths.
Massachusetts (democrat gov.) = 7 million people, 8,054 Covid deaths.
Florida (rep. gov) = 21 million people, 3550 covid deaths.
This isn't about left vs. right. This isn't about politics. It is about competence vs. incompetence.
Competent right wing governments all over the world are solving this problem. Incompetent right wing governments are failing to solve the problem.
Competent left wing governments all over the world are solving this problem. Incompetent left wing governments are failing to solve the problem.
Glad I could help.
Now where is my bong ?
