Chick Corea, Jazz Pianist Who Expanded the Possibilities of the Genre, Dead at 79
One of the all time giants of Jazz, a pioneer of multiple genres, 23 time Grammy winner, and one of my favorite musicians since about 1973. We've seen him perform as recently as 2019. Chick will be missed.
Chick Corea - keys
Al Di Meola - g
Stanley Clarke - b
Lenny White - dr
More recently with Brian Blade and Christian McBride

Well that sucks. Used to love listening to him on a jazz show featured on KINK in Portland years ago.

Dated is a relative term. I've got both Light as a Feather and Romantic Warrior on vinyl and don't find them dated at all. Maybe the format is dated, though. Mostly I stream even this old stuff through my iPhone these days. I do sometimes miss putting an album on and sitting down to read through the album cover for the 100th time. And maybe use the unfolded cover to separate the seeds from the bud and roll a fat number.
These as well, BTW.

So California. I can hook a brother up with some pretty decent high desert homegrown from my back yard. 2 plants gave me 4.5 ounces of finished bud. I am pretty popular with the old guys around here giving it away.

Smoking the stems on this stuff would put your midget ass on the ground. Late planting, too much shade and questionable genetics on the dispensary plants means a lower yield you fucking ass licking maggot. This year it is some genetics from seed from an old hippie down the road who was an OG in the Humbolt County grows.

It's dated because of the choice of instruments, and the arrangement. It's music to score fantasy dungeon crawls while on shrooms, to. It very much belongs in the 70s.
I should probably pull up a contemporary live version to hear the difference, right?

OK yes I see your point if by “dated” you mean easily identifiable to a certain time period. At the time, it was totally new and experimental. Guys like Herbie Hancock and George Duke were experimenting with similar sounds, though more in a funk/R&B mode. I still love that stuff though, and don’t consider any more dated than classic Miles or Coltrane or Monk from the 50s. To truly get where Jazz is today (does anybody?) you have to have some appreciation for all the places it’s been in the past.
BTW I saw Chick with RTF twice and the Ekektric Band once in the past 10 years (along with several other combos mostly acoustic), it was always great stuff.
