Doesn’t make much sense to compare those two articles. The CNN one is just as this was going down and the other is 72 hours later. I would expect the 2nd to have more facts and the quotes from the shooter.

It likely won’t be a hate crime either. This is one of the problems with hate crimes. There are plenty more. These added labels are dumb and don’t make the crime any worse or any less. For example “date rape.” The rape isn’t any less of a rape because it happens on a date vs not on a date.

I see you working, but it still leaves a few questions. Did CNN update the story or is that the latest version? How often do you read CNN or are you just looking there for this single story?

Most Americans want their news with a certain flavor, so they go to the sites that taste best to them. There isn't a cable news channel that I know of that plays it right down the middle. They play to what consumers want. So expecting them to not show their bias is like asking someone to prove a negative.

This would be a bigger deal to me if you showed an AJC story that left off all of the race based info. Most newspapers have a left lean yet try to pass themselves off as center of the road. But unlike the cable news stations you can't just pick up a different paper for a different flavor. The best of the bunch is the Wall Street Journal IMO.

For example, we found that a person fatally shot by police was much more likely to be White when they were suicidal. This does not mean that there are department policies or officer biases that encourage fatal shootings of suicidal White civilians. A more plausible explanation is that White civilians are more likely to attempt “suicide by cop” than minorities (38). Similarly, Black and Hispanic officers (compared with White officers) were more likely to fatally shoot Black and Hispanic civilians. This does not mean that there are department policies encouraging non-White officers to fatally shoot minorities. Rather, the link between officer race and FOIS appears to be explained by officers and civilians being drawn from the same population, making it more likely that an officer will be exposed to (and fatally shoot) a same-race civilian.

We did not find evidence for anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparity in police use of force across all shootings, and, if anything, found anti-White disparities when controlling for race-specific crime.

Also never mind that by real numbers far more whites are killed by police than any other race.

But keep the misinformation campaign at full speed.
