We had a beheading incident nearby recently that was kept under wraps for a good while. Police didn’t want the citizenry to lose their shit when they realized the cartels were in town. I laughed. Yes, let us scrupulously observe Mexico's sovereignty as they flood our borders with useless eaters and drugs. With drones and even half-ass intelligence, we can lay waste to their operations and their personnel.
The Mexican government would emit a few pro forma squeals, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be too broken up about cartels being blown to shit and who really gives a fuck if they don't like it? What are they going to do? Invade us? Oh...um...err

For the record, I have nothing against going in with the military and eliminating the cartels. If we do it without Obrador’s approval, though, we will have to deal with accusations of invasion and worse. A real concern should be Mexico becoming close partners with China. Don’t be shocked to see Xi making more and more overtures to Obrador. Having an ally right on our open southern border must be Xi’s wet dream.
