We did Mobile in 2020. Just a drive thru not there long. Met a cool dude at the coin shop and learned they have the oldest Mardi Gras parade.

Then in 2022 we came up from Panama City to Dothan (where we loudly mocked the losers that put up the confederate monument in the town sq) and did the Pioneer museum just outside of town and then drove to BBQ House for killer Q and met a really nice lady who was very interested in our travels, we still text weekly. We then drove to Pine Flats to hang out and ride bikes at James Sikes Park which was super fun and then to Sweet Creek Farms to play with chickens where my son met his first Guinea Fowl and learned how they eat ticks. His response? “I want one.”

Next day was Montgomery and the Rosa Parks & Freedom Riders museums plus DT Montgomery, drab and dreary town but the museums were great. Also went to the zoo and they had a Capybara so A+! Then drove Selma2Montgomery historic trail, Edmund Pettus bridge and DT Selma, the drive was nice the town was also drab and dreary but obviously found more killer food so that was nice. They had great signage on the drive for all the camp sites and whatnot. 52 miles is a long way and I never really understood that part from school so, yeah being there is better.

Next day we slowly drove to Demopolis to tour Gaineswood then go DT to see the Town Sq- then drive thru Cuba to Mississippi Welcome station we we met more super nice ladies.

Glad we did it but wouldn’t want to live there unlike West Virginia which was spectacularly beautiful from top to bottom so it’s not a redneck thing. It just kinda boring. Has mountains, but not the nicest. Some cool stuff, but not much. I glad you like and appreciate it, it’s just not for me. Just like so much of California is a barren wasteland that I wouldn’t want to live in either.

Glad you were honest rather than dismissive and arrogant like m2.

I think you meant Pine Level rather than Pine Flats. 8)

I can completely understand you describing things as ‘boring’ or ‘drab’. Montgomery snd Selma are terrible cities. Selma more so. A total dump.

But you missed the gorgeous beaches and the northeastern part of the state which is beautiful. The southeast corner of the state is, by far, the least interesting and least attractive area. Dothan - ugh.

Obviously California offers a lot, but I wouldn’t live there.

Ah yes Pine Level, I don’t take the greatest travel notes. 😂

Closest we got to the NE was driving thru GSM (so if it’s anything like that, it’s beautiful) but we went to Nashville not Chattanooga so we missed Huntsville/Lake Wilson area. Heard a lot about it from my various VanLife buddies. Mostly good. Hope to do it some Summer.

Just like you should look into the nice areas of Cal I’m sure you would love. Not sure if you still ride but Big Sur to Cambria is a must.

People that live in San Francisco don't go to Union Square. It's where the hotels for buisness people and tourists without a clue stay. It's right next to the Tenderloin.

Tourists with a brain stay elsewhere in The City. And they always say... where are all the homeless people?

Don't believe everything you're told from right-wing nutjob news sources.

Most lame retort Ever. More like an apology.

If you have any equity in a house or condo there (room on 3rd floor, shared bath) get out now. It will never get better in terms of value or safety.

You know this is true. Shit stains or not on your porch. Yet

I know where Meat Head lives. CLUE: It's isn't the Bay, or even on a coast.

That map seems to have expanded Union Square by about three or four blocks in every direction. Just sayin'.

And, there's a lot more to California than San Francisco, South LA and Neckersfield. The last two have been shitholes since before you were born. :meds: x

I grew up in the Bay Area but left 50 years ago. It's a fun place to visit but I would never move back.

The Padres suck, but who cares? This is were we go to watch baseball.

This is where we go for concerts (within walking distance from Petco).

This is my back yard, three days ago. I do need to trim the queen palms and I'm still trying to get stuff to grow in a couple of blank spots, but the rest is native California plants, many of which will be covered in white blossoms starting in a couple of weeks and lasting until probably October.

Yeah, Sam, I understand your revulsion at this center of wokeness but, TBH, the more people who DON'T want to move here, the better.

Beautiful area, Mikey. I know California has incredible locales. But I tire of the Bama-bashing from ignorant people who know nothing about the state.

We’ve definitely had our problems and have some nasty history, but Il never will forget my shock when I first started posting in here many moons ago at the perception of Alabama by fellow posters. I was stunned at the image so many of y’all had of the south.

I was in Dallas over the weekend. I guess that's part of the South...

The weather sucked but I'll have to admit I had great food and everybody I met went out of their way to be friendly, even if they knew I was from California. I was impressed. Never been to Bama but I was in North Carolina a couple of decades ago and that was pretty cool too.

Don't forget...smackboards are for smack. If you expect something different, you're going to be disappointed.

Ha! True, it is a smackboard.

Hell I’m tiring of being such an asshole in here. I guess I come across as 180 degrees different from who I really am. It’s getting old…as am I.

Don’t visit Alabama between now and the end of September. The past 2-3 days the weather got back to normal…fucking humid as hell and 90 degrees. I love the sun, but this humidity sucks the life outta me. It’s been really comfortable until the last few days…I got spoiled.

My own pet theory, is that people have some sort of natural drive or inclination - to go west. They do so and then hit the Pacific and can go no further. At this point, something snaps. They become completely unglued, wires short-circuit and fuses blow, resulting in the creation of tedious lunatics.

This syndrome extends upwards to the Canadian west coast, making it an international phenomena.

Confirming Phibes’ theory…

Meet D’Arcy Drollinger, a drag queen who’s now the first drag laureate in the US

In a city known for its support of LGBTQ+ rights, the city’s mayor, London Breed, says it was a natural step to create a position that not only embraces drag culture but puts government resources toward it.

https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2023/may ... ow-the-fi/

In all honesty, this is perfectly appropriate for SF.

Phibes' theory is correct.

Going west to California was not enough for me.
I *snapped* and needed to go further west.

So I crossed the Pacific and landed in S. Korea.
I became unglued and embraced flat earth.

From here I will travel further west -----> into China.

Idk about snapping when they hit the coast, but I do know that people that looked at Kansas or Nebraska and what not and said “yeah I’m good” are a special kind of boring. I’d rather live with colorful people than drab douche bags who settle.

Another option from CA. You need to make a left turn though.

I’m the third generation of my family in CA and, believe me, I can remember a much better version of the state. But I’m not going anywhere. Things change everywhere over time, rarely for the better, and I haven’t seen any place that I’d rather be.
