A baseball coach in a, let's see here.....tournament for 11 year olds brawls with an umpire. Just when you think Alabama can't get any worse, it goes out and totally redeems itself.
Nice going, guys.

An 84 team tournament? Lol, how ridiculous.
A video of a youth baseball coach and an umpire in Alabama fighting led to “significant penalties” for those on each side of the brawl, officials said Tuesday.
The youth baseball coach and umpire had to be separated after going to the ground during an 11U game in Calera over the weekend.
The game was part of a 28-field, 84-team tournament hosted by Grand Slam Alabama.
Darren Bright, the state director of the organization, confirmed to AL.com all parties involved have been reprimanded.
“After gathering information over the past 48 hours, we have levied significant penalties on each party,” Bright said Tuesday. “They are severe enough to warrant what happened.”
A video of the altercation was originally uploaded to Facebook.
Bright added, there was “mutual responsibility after a misinterpretation of a ruling and what should happen on the field as a result.”
“It was a very unfortunate situation, and one that Grand Slam Alabama does not condone in anyway whatsoever,” said Bright, who added Grand Slam has never had an incident of this nature.
“There is never a place for an instance like this, especially in front of kids who just want to play the game of baseball. Rest assured, that we have taken appropriate action toward all the individuals we have deemed as being responsible to include - but not limited to - lengthy suspensions from all Grand Slam events.”

As a parent that spent many years traveling for hockey, this is a problem in youth sports everywhere, not a Bama issue.
I also don't understand why you have a problem with an 84 team tournament. Multiple age groups, competitive levels within each age group, no problem with all those teams.
Big swing and a miss Screwy.

That should be an automatic forfeit for his kid's team plus any applicable criminal penalties.

My favorite part is how in the Twitter thread there's people trying to blame the umpire. Yeah, I'm sure the umpire was getting in the coach's face about his bad coaching. Happens all the time.
And.......................11 year olds.

Perhaps the reporter screwed it up, but a tournament implies the teams compete against each other. 84 teams from different age groups is not a tournament.

It is/was a tournament, teams played against each other to determine winners in multiple age groups (ex. 8u, 10u, 12u, 14u, etc) & possible divisions, AAA, AA, A, etc.
I would even bet there were many medals and trophies handed out to the winners and 1st lovers, 2nd lovers. 3rd lovers, yadda yadda yadda.
Strike 4 for you on this one.

Yeah we get that they call it a tournament but in reality it’s many tournaments rolled into one event. Like Wimbledon is the Wimbledon Championship. I’m sure people call it a tournament but it is really many tournaments. If there is not one winner at the end it’s not a tournament. The dictionary is your friend.
But I loved your what about other states “argument”, that was pretty sweet.

Nice double down on the white flag.
So to recap: with a tourney there is one winner. In this tournament it was me.

The topic is- what is a tourney, if you would like to partake. Being better than you doesn’t make someone a narcissistic, it just means they are not brain dead.
