Well, the most recent CNN story I saw said this...
A US soldier who crossed the demarcation line into North Korea had been facing disciplinary action by the US military and was set to be sent back to the United States, according to a US defense official.

Perhaps the soldier was not in a good frame of mind, and he made a stupid decision?
Not sure why he crossed.
We'll have to wait for more info on it.
Hopefully the North will just release him back across the border and the situation will not escalate unnecessarily.

No response from NK.
Not good for Private King.
But at least he's not AP.
North Korea has yet to offer any substantive response to requests from United Nations Command to confirm the safety of a US service member in its custody, a state department spokesperson said Wednesday.
In addition, Pyongyang remains unresponsive to such requests from the United States, according to the department spokesperson, Matthew Miller.

NK state media has spoken.
"Throughout the investigation, Travis King admitted to his deliberate decision to cross into the DPRK, driven by his resentment towards the inhumane abuse and racial discrimination within the US military," the KCNA reported.
"Travis King also expressed disillusionment with the inequities present in American society and articulated his intention to seek asylum either within our country or in a third country. The investigation is still ongoing."
