I don’t have the data at my fingertips. But I’ve lived in California for 68 years, third generation. I grew up in “Silicon Valley” before it was Silicon Valley and headed south when it still was basically Stanford University and Hewlett-Packard. Most of those tech workers, which are the ones moving to Austin, moved to California from somewhere else, following the high paying tech jobs. Most of the rest of us are more than happy to show them the door.

My stepdaughter, who lives in NJ, bought a home in Austin probably ten years ago, mostly because she goes to ACL every year, and rents it out as short term rental the rest of the year. She was planning on possibly moving there sometime, but not so sure at this point I think. She could make a killing if she sold it now, though.

Super Slow is an expert on China, San Francisco and the Bay Area, and now Austin. Without ever having been to those places. I need to hear more from him before I go to my place in Texas in Oct. Things must have changed recently and I need the heads up so I'm not shocked. From what I'm hearing the place use to be a blast!

Travel real is the best way to learn about people and places.

I don't believe law enforcement is engaging in either definition. Law enforcement referenced by SSam is doing ::nothing::

Coddling involves proactive or reactive action. Doing nothing is apathy, not coddling, and apathy in law enforcement is absolutely happening.

So define “bowing down,” because that apparently is what we are doing to “minorities.” I’d sort of like a clarification on “minorities” as well, but I’m not counting on getting more than one thing at a time.

Based on race, we are all minorities in California (that’s assuming that “Hispanic” is different than “Caucasian” though I may get some argument on the difference between “race” and “ethnic group”).
