I remember him once saying that he would never try to intentionally injure an opposing player unless it was a really important game....like a league game.

Butkus was THE most dominant defensive player of my lifetime.
Ferocious and utterly relentless.
He played every down as if his career depended on it.
Only LT (Giants) came close to the same level of dominance.
