Not that anyone cares, but a brief update on what I think is one of the most fantastic stadiums in the world. I think it came up in a Brutalism thread ages ago.
Anyhoo..
It's a blend of Brutalism and 'organic' modern architecture, designed to give the look of vertebrae, sinews, tentacles.
Designed for the 1976 Olympics, the grift in the construction is legendary. The mob ran the build, empty concrete trucks were driving into the site 24/7 and leaving, having registered as discharged load.
The roof is deemed unsafe on any weight beyond 3 cm of snow. And it's Montreal.
Now it seems there's a movement to tear it down. Problem is, it pre-stressed concrete, you can't use explosives which would turn every detonation into an artillery barrage on the city and you can't easily cut it, the concrete contains energy which would be released and turn it into an artillery barrage on the city.
There's a subway station underneath and a zoo alongside.
There are quotes to tear down coming in at 2 billion. The cost to tear down the Georgia Dome and completely rebuild a new stadium come in at 1.6 billion.
The company responsible for the quotes has since shuttered, changed names after being found guilty of collusion and kickbacks from the provincial government.
There is another option to re-design the roof at 870 million.
I suspect this marvel will continue to survive.

Don't even ask about Athens.
They just condemned the stadium roof structure because it never got maintained.

The Slavs have a somewhat painful relationship with ski jumping.

Olympics are a huge $$ loser---money pit. I'm surprised that anyone bids on them anymore.

My brother and I used to go to Expos games. Lighting was terrible but the atmosphere was awesome. They would play “the Happy Wanderer” between innings, seats where 20 USD and the Expos.played well for a team that was constantly gutted of star players. Good times until MLB sold them down the coat to DC.

Youppi eventually got a job with the Habs, he shows up to games in a Canadiens Gary Carter jersey.
