A Derecho Weather Event

We knew a thunderstorm front was coming but nobody knew the severity of it until it hit us like Ike backhanding Tina.

“A derecho (pronounced similar to "deh-REY-cho") is a widespread, long-lived wind storm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms. Although a derecho can produce destruction similar to the strength of tornadoes, the damage typically is directed in one direction along a relatively straight swath.”

Pics from our neighborhood…

Wish I took more pics, but every street had at least one tree splitting a house in half or a tree in the street. I’m willing to bet we lost 90% of the pecan trees in the neighborhood. Power is about 80% restored. We have a 20kw standby generator so we have served as hub for others on the street to get fresh coffee, plug in their phones, have dinners, and for people to sit in AC for a couple hours.

What an insane event.

Indeed.

I am about 100 miles away from H-town, and we also had large storms that day.
But Houston was hit worse.

Yes.
A huge number of folks lost power in the event.
Someone from H-town drove up here to stay with me, due to power being *OUT* at their crib.

Events like THIS demonstrate why Trump is so popular and becoming more popular every day. People remember the Trump years when our trees weren't falling down even though MSNBCoNN is constantly LYING about how many trees got blown down four years ago when we had the BEST tree survival rate in US history. People aren't buying Biden's branch snapping bullshit lies anymore.

Coogs, those derecho's are no joke.
We have been a victim of a few of those in the last 20 plus
years that we have lived in our house.
One rolled thru KC's west side and tore up a fair amount of
shit last night also.

They recorded 100mph straight line winds. 8 people reported dead. We absolutely got after it as a community Friday morning and into the weekend. Had all the trees cleared from the streets in my area my 1pm with the exception of ones tangled up in down power lines. Smoked a brisket for 20 people Saturday evening.

I give it a 7

Rack Fu was somewhere in Texas wasn’t he? I don’t see any grass clippings in the street but he’s prolly going nuts anyway.

Shih tzu?

How does a guy like you,, built like skinny little runt Robert DeNiro, call me a shih tzu, when I'm built like George Foreman?

Rack AychPeeGee!

Had a derecho shoot through Arlington when I lived there. Lots of homes & businesses lost power for awhile. We didn’t because we were on the same power grid as the Pentagon, which was ~ a mile away. Appreciate your tax $$ keeping us juiced up.

Derecho might be a monthly event around here. We call them straight line tornados or maybe that's a different thing but still crazy wind in a straight line. One of the reasons we don't have trees.
