Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a collection of golf resorts funded by the Alabama Teacher Retirement fund. A total of 11 resorts with 26 golf courses spread throughout the state. Four of us embarked on a journey last Saturday that ended last night with me pulling into the driveway at around 6:30PM.

We played 8 rounds in 6 days totaling 144 holes across 3 resorts (Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Auburn Grand National in Auburn, & Capitol Hill in Prattville). Very affordable golf trip with the guys. Prattville is a highly underrated small town nestled about 15 minutes outside Montgomery with Autauga Creek and Dam running through the middle of town. Foxes pizza and Uncle Mick’s Cajun Cuisine were top notch. Teddy’s Bourbon Bar was very impressive with their selections. What a gem of a town.

Glad you and your buddies enjoyed your trip, Coogs.

I’m not a golfer, but I know the RTJ courses are really nice. And you’re right about Prattville. It’s become a cool community. Stay away from Montgomery and we’ve got a damn nice area here.

Great PET. Makes me very jealous because I used to play a lot (multiple rounds per week for years) but haven’t been on a golf course for probably 15 years. I told myself I’d get back into it once I retired but so far I’m 0 for 2 years. One of these days…

Mikey I used to play a bunch of golf years ago. My thought is to wait until I think I can shoot my age and then start again.

Rack you for being able to do that. I would have had to be the golf cart driver, or stay home and make a gumbo for when y'all finished.

Also used to play a lot. My clubs would usually go w/me on most every biz trip. Had my handicap down to a 5 at one point, but just kinda lost interest for some reason. Can't explain why. The Robert Trent Jones golf trail was always on my radar, but never did play any of the courses. Great pics, rumps. I'm sure you had a ton of fun.

One thing for me was getting married and having kids. That greatly decreased my availability. Then the arthritis in my hips got so bad I had a hard time walking. I got that all fixed in 2011 but just haven’t had that much of an urge. But with a lot more time now I’m at least hoping to get out to the range and see what I can do.

I played on the team in HS but was not one of the top players. But there was a time in my 20s and 30s when I was single and working nights in a bar/restaurant where I’d get up and out to Torrey Pines with the sunrise crowd and get a walking round in before noon several times a week. Actually got my HC down to 3 at one point. Back then you could get a monthly pass for San Diego municipal courses (Torrey Pines was one) for $22.50 for up to 18 rounds. I’ll probably need some new clubs though. I still have my persimmon Powerbilt driver in my bag.

I was playing a ton of golf in 2016-2017 and then picked it up again in late 2020 before I met my now wife. We are a very busy family with baseball, soccer, and a 19 month old but we agree there is a point where you must make time for yourself. We trade off, so it works.

Yeah, likewise here. My irons are Titleist 804's that I bought back in the late 90's-early 20's. Unforgiving clubs, but when you smooth an iron, you knew it. They're quite workable re: ball flight, but again, unforgiving. I always liked that challenge. Up until about 2015 I did stay up to date with my driver unlike you. Ping, I *think* G10.

Powerbilt were my first irons way back when, lol.

Golf puts a big dent in my activity list. Kinda doing the retirement thing just like I imagined....Golf, travel, fine drinking & dining, etc.

Played Valencia Country Club many times, a Jones course in my old stomping grounds before joining the club across the 5 fwy, TPC Valencia...now the Oaks....Played many times with a couple posters from the BTPCF forum....I thank God after every round for making golf doable with my aching body challenges...

Played in HS. Was nothing special. Never broke 80. While in the Navy going to school, I could play the base course for $18.....per month. I fukking lived on that course. By the end of that summer I went out expecting to break 80.

I've played about as much as you since getting married 33 years ago. Went decades without playing, but have gotten out a few times a year the last 5 years or so. Today I still go out expecting to break 80....on the front side, anyway.

How about Rory's choke job yesterday? And how about Bryson making what has to be the hardest shot in golf, a 55 yard bunker shot? Dude said he could expect to get up and down maybe 4 times in 100!

I don’t even watch it anymore. But I was impressed by the Italian guy who aced his final hole on Friday (the ninth) to make the cut. Caught that on a YouTube replay.
