I'm in favor. Generally speaking, government should do less, with less.
Do you live in North Dakota?

That's great news for all three of you that live there.
Igloos are considered property up there?

Government exists.
While it is in fashion to say people want less government, it becomes significantly more difficult when you try to identify exactly which services are to be reduced or eliminated.
You want to have longer lines at your office of motor vehicles? Fewer potholes repaired? Less capacity to prosecute and imprison criminals? Garbage picked up only twice a month? And on and on.
These services and functions cost money, how to pay for them? North Dakota may be saying not via property taxes. Ok, so that means some other tax(es) will increase. Maybe North Dakota wants to pay more income tax, or sales taxes. Or maybe they want to pay more gas taxes or excise taxes.
Not easy things to decide and work out. Good luck to y'all.

Property taxes have customarily been the main funding source for public education. I guess these people in North Dakota are using this as an underhanded way to get rid of public schools. Because you know that the primary purpose of public schools has become to force transgender surgery on our kids. At least they should come out and admit that this is their main reason for their initiative. Not surprising that HPG is totally on board.

Government isn’t the problem. We need government services. It is the bloat, waste, inefficiency, redundancy, ineptitude, unaccountability, lack of competition, mendacity, and corruption in the delivery of government services that chafes me. We ain’t getting anything close in terms of value compared to what we’re paying for. Just sayin.

I kind of respect mendacity. It’s redundancy that irritates me. Did I mention that I kind of respect mendacity?

I'm sure North Dakota eliminating property taxes will keep the University of North Dakota one of the nation's top three aviation and aerospace colleges. But who gives a shit about that? This is about my FUCKING feelings and property taxes are UNFAIR.

Hows about we start with a formal, no shit audit.

Don't audit the pentagon or we'll have to crash another plane into it.

It exists, but most of it, in its current form, shouldn't.
Let's start with Congress. Why the hell should that be a full-time job?
Musk will make quick of the government bloat.
I'm so sick of the argument that the country can't be run like a business.
Funny how anyone that says that is either a bureaucrat, or a huge fan of bureaucracy.

That you think government should be run like a business only exposes how little you understand about the issue.
Here and here are some brief explanations as to why that is a bad idea.
That's not to say there aren't some aspects of business that can be applied to government, sure there are. But government and business are entirely different entities, and should not be run in the same way.

OK, I will qualify my statement and say that non-essential govt departments should be run like a business.
Of course fire departments, police departments, etc are essential. We can argue about which ones are non-essential.
Why is it that we never hear about major government entities are being laid off, but we always hear about private sector business layoffs?
Because govt bureau only seem to grow, and are never reduced.
Re: North Dakota Constitutional Initiative Aboloshing Property Tax
I said a real audit, clown. Government auditing itself is not an audit. It's a circle jerk.
Real audits means outside auditors.

Ah, I see you are not familiar with state auditors. They definitely do not simply sign off on the status quo, and in fact love to expose improper use of state funds.

If government auditors were worth a damn, why is there so much waste? Or are you going to tell me that governments run tight ships and there is no waste?

For the same reasons that there is waste in businesses. Employees, whether private or public, are human. Mistakes are made, and yes, sometimes there is mismanagement and fraud.

Go ahead and admit now that you have no idea what an auditor does. Governmental or private.

The difference is that a person chooses to buy a company’s stock. If waste occurs then it’s reflected as such in a negative stock price. Employees can be impacted but can choose to work for someone else.
We are forced at gunpoint to pay taxes and support government profligacy.

Go ahead and post your thoughts on auditors’ role in correcting wasteful spending. Or something meaningful on the shit take you attempted.
Take your time…

Auditors are supposed to review accounts to determine that funds appropriated for a particular purpose were used in that manner. But the appropriation language is often vague and filled with discretionary authority, and the auditors are limited in terms of the scope of their review, making them mostly useless.
