Waldron’s Knuckleball

I watched this guy pitch a bunch last season. First season as a ML starter. He was lights out in the first half of the season but the wheels sort of fell off after the All Star break. But entertaining as hell, especially when they showed the knuckleball in super slow motion, and the hitters having no idea where to swing and the catcher having problems even catching it.

Recalling Hoyt Wilhelm and the catcher with the oversized mitt.

Phil Niekro had the same problem in the ATL. Hot weather makes knuckleballs become wild pitches.

Had a buddy who, whenever we had him at 3rd, would throw me (at 1B) nothing but knuckleballs as we warmed up between innings. It was nuts.

I watched a short documentary on the knuckleball comeback. There are a few knuckler clinics gaining popularity. We'll be seeing more of this pitch in coming years.

If kids wanna have a healthy arm, they should learn to throw a knuckler. Mix it in. Save some wear and tear. You wouldn’t have to throw it exclusively.

Waldron has a decent fastball to mix in and keep the hitters guessing. I think he was throwing about 40% knucklers last season.
