Would like to hear your thoughts on the jet/helo crash.

I’ve seen video that makes it look like the army chopper pilot was on a Kamikaze mission.

He’s cruising along at a pretty good clip with very good visibility.

He has to know he’s flying right through the final approach to DCA.

I have seen the same video and it is disturbing. I have also heard the ATC audio and that clearly tells the Army pilot to pass behind the American jet. The cause of the crash doesn’t seem to be in question, but much is still to be investigated. I am sure the NTSB will focus on the chopper pilots and ATC.

The talking heads are also already showing they know nothing about aviation. I heard one blame the Trump Admin for not having an FAA chief installed. Others were discussing the “overcrowding” at DCA. Another was focused on the switch from landing on runway 1 to runway 33 as if this was so dangerous.

Bottom line, the NTSB has talented people who will get to the bottom of this tragedy. Reporters and anchors should stick to facts as they really don’t know much about aviation.

I’ve already seen something connecting the firing of TSA boss.

This might result in contraband bottles of water getting through, but it has fuck all to do with air traffic.

Was talking to a pilot buddy this morning who said there’s been pressure to close that airport for this very reason. There’s always a lot of helo traffic in the area and it’s a fukking mess.

People have wanted to close DCA for decades. It won’t happen because Congress and the Government including the military are some of the most frequent users. Most private raffia is restricted from using it anyway.

Hands will wring and there will be all manner of dumb suggestions until the NTSB final report is released in 2026.

It sounds to me like the helicopter pilots saw the departing flight and not AA5342 which they then ran into.

AA5342 was below 500 feet and were moving from runway 1 to runway 33 and would have had their heads out of the cockpit and focused on the runway. The Blackhawk did say they had AA5342 in sight and they would have been responsible to stay clear. That said, having AA5342 in sight may not have meant they yet knew where it was moving. It takes a bit at night to understand the flight path of an aircraft based only on its navigation lights.

Only the right seater would have really had a shot at seeing the helicopter approaching from his right at about 30 degrees. It would be even harder to see if the helicopter was climbing at the time.

However, there is apparently a class action lawsuit by over 1000 ATC applicants regarding DEI bullshit keeping them from being hired. You would think even the idiots promoting DEI would recognize that in areas of public safety, only the best should be employed. Damn race, religion, etc. Merit should be the ONLY consideration.

Let's take a look at Center N90 in the NYC area. They have had almost no trainees being certified to work there. These trainees are then certified in other locations. Current controllers in N90 are the ones signing off on the trainees being certified. Strangely, they have mandatory overtime due to understaffing. It isn't because they haven't had trainees, they just haven't had nearly as many certified. Keeping staffing low, means overtime continues. There are also concerns along DEI and the college training programs. Some controllers that didn't go to college resent the "college controllers" and are reportedly far harder on them. DEI isn't leading to unsafe situations as those selected still have to pass thru the program, but it is reducing the pool of those allowed to enter the program. Freezing hiring until this is worked out seems to make sense.

What exactly is this committee doing? Do you even know? Some of the things they are worried about is no smoking signs on planes being able to be turned on and off. Meanwhile there isn't a single US airline that allows smoking on board, but the FAA still says no smoking signs need to be able to be turned on and off. They delayed United putting some planes into the fleet because the no smoking signs weren't able to be turned off. Absolutely zero safety concern here.

The scuttlebutt on black twitter is that many black men don't care about DEI because they don't think black men have benefited from it in the first place, so its loss makes no difference in their world.

None of these actions had any bearing on the collision. But it would be nice to have a legitimate investigation into it. How is that going to go if you fire all of the experienced experts and put some guy in charge whose only “relevant” experience is likely to be on the level of running a used car dealership in Omaha? At least whoever it is will be willing to echo whatever it is that Dear Leader wants him to say. So be prepared for the official cause to be DEI programs and woke liberals infiltrating the FAA.

MD-715 contains policy guidelines and standards for establishing and maintaining effective affirmative employment programs.
