One of our treasured neighbors out for some evening air today and, perhaps, looking for a snack.

Is that blue sky?

What's that like?

Brilliant blue sky here this evening. By tomorrow morning it’s supposed to start raining for the next three days. Nothing compared to what I assume you’re getting though.

Is that a Peregrine? Fucking awesome birds. We have lots of Red Tail Hawks and the occasional Bald Eagle around here. Eagles can't be fully appreciated until you see one in person. Never seen a a Peregrine, though. They're stone killers.

Couple years ago we were doing reclamation and watched a golden eagle dive on a young antelope. The big bird slammed into the antelope's back, took off, circled higher and higher before diving and slamming into it again. For two days a family of eagles ate it from the ass while it was bleating but alive with a broken back. Nature is brutal.

This is a red shoulder hawk. Slightly smaller but very similar coloring to a red tail. There are some differences in the feather pattern on the wings or something. We have a lot of them around here, and there are also some red tails. Sometimes you can go out in the morning and hear three or four of them screeching. We have some large trees in the backyard and most years there will be a pair nesting back there. Then we get to witness flying lessons and a lot more screeching. Saw a golden eagle here once (I think).

We also get great horned owls. Sometimes they spend several hours before sunrise going Who? Who? Who?

reminds me of going to a football game at Penn State when my brother was playing there. Air Force Academy was playing and at half time they had the trained falcons put on a show---awesome.

We see hawks pretty much daily. Red-tailed hawks are all over this area. My dog chases ‘em off the fence all the time.

We can’t have small puppies because of the birds.

We've got a lot of those out here, too. I remember checking the road conditions on NE 511 before heading to work one day and opened up one of the live cams on I-80 to see one of them staring into it.

Sounds exciting.

Granted, I'm sure it's not nearly as exciting as waking up in a puddle of felch on a couch in a dingy garage with a busy day of hawking wind chimes ahead, but we do our best to get by.

They are somewhat common in KC. The Dept of Conservation always has
cams set up in nests every spring where you can watch the eggs/ hatching,
and such.
