Durbin goes off the rails...again

According to Durbin, American serviceman are the equivalent of Nazi's, Soviet Gulag's, Pol Pot, etc.
All this because we are feeding our Gitmo detainees fried chicken...
Seriously, you Democrats have to chill out.

Nope. Just a little pissed when a US Senator starts comparing US soldiers to Nazi's, Soviet Gulag guards, Pol Pot, etc.
I really hope someone caps his ass.

For a Democrat from Illinois, the only way to get yourself into the national spotlight is to constantly compare the Bush Administration to the worst regimes in history. If Durbin said "There are definitely some improvements needed at Gitmo, but overall the prisoners are being treated reasonably well," would anyone even give a crap? It's much sexier to say that we're dangling muslims over a pit full of pungi sticks and jamming bamboo slivers under their fingernails Ho Chi Minh-style. He's just another attention whore.

Variable, he's not talking about the President. He is talking about US troops.

What's the problem? Was Durbin wrong in his facts?
On a couple of occasions, I entered interview rooms to find a detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water. Most times they urinated or defecated on themselves, and had been left there for 18-24 hours or more. On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold. ..... On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.
But no, let's have a debate about semantics, not the treatment of fellow human beings.

Why are you trying to divert, B???

Wake the fuck up, moron. Who the fuck do you think we're dealing with over there?
Oh, I forgot. First you have to dehumanize them. That makes it easier to abuse them.

Dammit, I was on a roll! Don't get me all screwed up with facts! :D
I was reading an article about Durbin comparing the Bush Admin to the Nazis when I posted that. My bad.
Oh, I forgot. First you have to dehumanize them. That makes it easier to abuse them.
How would you interrogate them? Put a Hello Kitty sticker on their orange jumpsuit, wipe those tears away and give them a biiiiiiiig hug and tell them they don't have to say a word until they're ready? Jesus...

Variable, who do you think the Americans are that he is talking about? The only Americans taking these actions were the soldiers...
This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
Where is the mention of the administration?

I'm not sure exactly what Jesus would do. But that sounds a whole lot closer than what Durbin was describing.

Blatant dodge. Not at all surprising.

Doesn't approach torture, though.
As much as you want to believe that American soldiers are the equivalent of the Nazi's running the camps, Stalin's Gulag guards, Pol Pot, etc., it just isn't there.

Do you think that fighters who attack civilians, don't wear uniforms, and behead those they capture are deserving of the Geneva protections??
They are deserving of not being killed on the spot. We treat them better than we do Americans in our own prison system and yet you people demand even better treatment, hell you demand that they qualify as US citizens.

BSmack, are you going to be so narrow-minded as to ignore the broader implication here??
By comparing US soldiers treatment of detainees to the Nazi's the Gulag, Pol Pot, the clear implication is that US soldiers are torturing detainees.
Dickhead, the Nazi's tortured people. Prisoners of the gulag were tortured. Pol Pot murdered and tortured those who didn't conform.
What's your problem???

Where's that Common Sense troll when you need him...
Dude, you're comparing an elected official to brutal dictatorships. You're comparing prison camps in police states that were populated with homosexuals, scientists, political dissidents, philosiphers and others with a camp that is populated with foreign combatants who murder women, children and our soldiers. ...not exactly what I would call apples to apples.
Are you just trolling here or are you one of those fruit loops that really believe Gitmo is as bad as Auschwitz and the Gulag. Seriously.

The shoe seems to be fitting quite well, the one on the foot that's up your ass.
There's a vast difference between loading up innocent people on trains, terrorizing rural farm villiages and the people at GITMO. The people at GITMO were fighting, with the Talliban, and were captured. The people at GITMO were in training camps. Training camps where they learn where the "safe houses" in the U.S. are, get schooled on getting in the country, learning to fly, and flying their planes into buildings. Of course since the jig is up on that one, they're probably learning other things.
Well they were, until, they got sent to GITMO.

RACK Tom. Well said.
I'm not comparing Bush to Hitler. I'm comparing tactics. If the fucking shoe fits...
Hitler jailed millions of
his own people.
How many Americans are in Gitmo other than that dork who was trying to make a dirty bomb?
Hitler made jews sew stars on their clothes.
Bush has said we must be tolerant of muslims and respect their differences.
Hitler had a direct, determined plan to exclude jews from society, and encouraged things like shopkeepers putting up signs reading "Juden Verboten."
Bush has made an ally of Pakistan that has resulted in significant captures of key terrorist figures.
Your comparisons of Bush's tactics to Hitler's does nothing but minimize what that monster did. You do nobody any favors when you do that, especially when you're just doing it to punctuate a point.

Uh, B, yes you do.
Hitler stuffed people into ovens, by the tens of thousands.
A few of our people have what?? Slapped around. Forced detainees to listen to bad music. Put dog collars on them. made them do sexually perverted things.
There is, quite simply, no equivalency between murdering and butchering millions and the mild abuse and humiliation by a handful of US troops.
What's even more disgusting is that ^^^ is what happened at Abu Ghraib. What's also being compared to Nazi German concentration camps, the Gulgas of the USSR, etc. is Gitmo where detainees are treated very, very well considering their detention. They get their holy books (with accomodating handling procedures). They get their traditional meals. They get what I consider lavish meals on a regular basis. They get hours and hours of exercise.
Comparing this type of conduct with Nazi Germany and the USSR certainly minimizes the horrors committed by those two murderous governments. How so? It lowers the bar for what is considered abhorrent behavior.

And they call Republicans "lock-step."
Witness what happened to Trent Lott after muttering what was essentially a joke re: Thurmond. Republicans wrapped their fingers around his throat before he was forced out as Leader.
Same with Newt.
Yet, curiously, not a single word re" Durbin's slander of our troops.
Not surprised.

Not quite. Gingrich was run by his own party because they lost seats in the 98 elections.

B sure missed the point here...
Republicans are frequently alleged to be lock-step. However, over the last several years several high profile Republicans, e.g., Lott and Gingrich, were run by their own party...
Meanwhile...we see none of that from the Democrats despite numerous opportunities, e.g., the latest Durbin problem.
BTW, dolt, I was referring to the Democrats not utterring a single negative re: Durbin slandering our troops.

Lott and Gingrich were considered to be liabilities. Durbin is not. Despite what you say, most Democrats simply do not feel that Durbin slandered our troops in any way, shape or form.
