Who said Bush doesn't watch polls?

I guess those polls bush says he doesn't pay attention to are more important than he wants us to know.

So in essence, when a poll shows negative reactions for one of his pet projects, he pays attention. When polls show negative results for something he is opposed to ro doesn't care about, then its "You can't base your presidency on poll results"
Bush Seeks to Calm Anxieties About Iraq

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 50 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Facing growing pressure to bring troops home from
Iraq,
President Bush is launching a public relations campaign to try to calm anxieties about the war.

Bush scheduled a major address for June 28, the one-year anniversary of the transfer of sovereignty from the U.S.-led coalition to Iraqis. Four days before that, he will meet at the White House with Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, who heads the transitional government chosen after January elections.

The president also plans a series of radio addresses and appearances outside Washington. He will emphasize the importance of democracy in Iraq and elsewhere when he meets with fellow world leaders in Gleneagles, Scotland, in July, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

The president's campaign comes as the U.S. death toll in Iraq has climbed above 1,700. A relentless wave of suicide bombings, kidnappings and beheadings has killed at least 1,070 just since al-Jaafari's government was announced April 28.

"The president recognizes that this is a concern that's on the minds of the American people," McClellan said. "That's why he's going to sharpen his focus, spending more time talking about the progress that's being made on the ground — there's significant progress that has been made in a short period of time — the dangers that remain and that lie ahead, as well as our strategy for victory in Iraq."

A few Republicans have broken ranks with the White House on Iraq, supporting a resolution that calls for Bush to start withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq by Oct. 1, 2006. "After 1,700 deaths, over 12,000 wounded and $200 billion spent, we believe it is time to have this debate and discussion," said one sponsor, Rep. Walter Jones (news, bio, voting record), R-N.C., who voted for the war.

Many GOP lawmakers also have been reluctant to embrace Bush's signature second-term domestic issue — allowing younger workers to set up private investment accounts with part of their
Social Security taxes.

But the president has shown no public evidence yet of backing down and has traveled the country weekly — and will again next week — to campaign for his proposals.

Still, at a time when Bush intended to be concentrating primarily on his domestic agenda, he finds himself shifting emphasis to Iraq.

Foreign policy has typically given Bush his highest scores with the public, but that has changed. An Associated Press-Ipsos poll this month found just 41 percent of adults supported his handling of the Iraq war — an all-time low. In addition, a Gallup poll released Monday found that six in 10 Americans say they think the United States should withdraw some or all of its troops from Iraq.

As with his new domestic agenda sales job, Bush plans to offer no policy changes on Iraq.

One development, though, could throw Bush completely off-stride. The Supreme Court's first vacancy in over a decade could come by the end of the month, and the fierce nomination battle that would immediately ensue would consume a huge portion of the president's — and the entire capital's — attention.

I'd be laughing if this wasn't so sad. What's the definition of "democracy" again?

60% of the American people are opposed to fighting for "democracy" in Iraq any longer. So, how does the Chimpion errrr Champion of Democracy handle it when the majority of the country that he allegedly represents wants something?

Need any more proof that our system is being hijacked by special interest?

Why do you hate America?

Because I love Christina Aguilera, and don't want to see her harmed.

psst mikey. The key phrase being 'fighting for "democracy" in Iraq'

And I don't buy that Aguilera comment. Jessica Alba, maybe, but Aguilera has been violated by more people than the speed limit on Highway 5 through he central valley has. You should ask dins why he hates his penis.

Pssst Bushy -- it was a lame SC3 reset. I'm guessing it's probably been used in response to that question before, but since I hadn't actually seen it used, I figured I'd post it, just to be safe.

I feel cheated.

But anyhow, nice to see the democratic govenment engaging in acts of war when the majority are opposed.

That's how democracy is supposed to work, right? Even if the majority feels a certain way, those in charge should roll out "yeah, but it's for YOUR safety, to keep democracy on the march" and do what suits their own interests. I believe that's what Washington and Jefferson had in mind.

I wonder how the majority of Iraqis feel about the continued US presence?

Well, those Iraqis are going to adopt DEMOCRACY, regardless how the majority of them feel about it.

this iraq war thing is all just a ruse to keep us from remembering something Bush was doing with Social Security. I don't rightly recall what it was, but it involved Bush's friends getting rich. Go figure.

Yeah that must it. Gee, nothing gets past you.

Fucking moron.
I was obviously joking. Iraq War happened quite some time before the attempts to alter Social Security.

Fucking moron.

I thought the Social Security thing involved individual citizens choosing to invest their money in concerns ..... they believed would benefit them more than Social Security.

Companies would get cash to generate more wealth, create more jobs, and ....

What's the reluctance here ?

See if you can follow this concept --

Because it isn't my place to do so.

Plus, I thought they now had a "democracy." Why should I go over there, when their democratic process should be able to come up with that same answer? Heck, they "successfully" held democratic elections, right? A simple "yes" or "no" vote should be simple for them, right?

Nice to see that you value the opinions of what the majority of Iraqis want, rather than what the majority of Americans want. Why do you hate America, you sandnigger-sympathizing piece of shit?

Nice to see the whole idea of what the "majority" wants went straight over your head.

60% of Americans want a timely withdrawl from Iraq. What part of "DEMOCRACY" did you not understand?

Tom In VA wrote: What's the reluctance here ?
You're not very smart.

You don't understand why anyone is apprehensive about taking a gauranteed fund, taking it out of it's protection, and putting it in the hands of corporate america?

That's what the whole reform deal is about...tell me you knew? The more money the Good Old Boys can take away from Johnny Q, and give to the Good Old Boys, the easier it is to promote their special interests.

Couple that with the fact that the proponents of the idea are KNOWN liars and profiteers.....can you at least understand the apprehension a little?

Goodness knows, with the Baby Boomers nearing retirement age, we should definitely decrease SS revenues -- it's sound finances.....if you own a huge finance company. It's pretty fucked for everyone else. But hey, if those baby boomers can't pay their bills as seniors(because a promise that was made to them by the government was broken), then the institutions that they were in debt to get to take what's left of their estate, thereby ensuring that they get to fuck the next generation out of something, as well.

I never claimed to be "smart".

The stuff I've read is that people would have a CHOICE between Social Security or they can VOLUNTARILY put that money into something "risky". Sure, it's at risk, so are most retirement plans, just ask United.

"He who dares, wins".

See if you can follow -- Social Security.....brace yourself -- being a righty, I know this is EXTREMELY difficult for you, but please try...Social Security.....

IS NOT ABOUT YOU!

I know that's a sin to a righty, but it's true. I realize it's difficult for the true evil dregs of society to embrace that concept, but there are things on this planet that don't revolve around you.

Social Security would be one of them.

It's about making sure our elderly are taken care of NOW. Not 10 years for now.....not 20 years from now(when the investment firms(aka lobbyists)have made quite the pretty penny at the expense of food out of our elderly's mouths)...but NOW.

Why do you hate old people(besides the smell, obviously)? Are you really this greedy and evil? Do you HAVE to risk tradegy amongst our elderly for those couple of extra bucks?

Jesus Fucking Christ, you suck. The Revolution is coming, and I will laugh in your bloody fucking face when you get what's coming to you.

I forgot, though....the GOP is the "christian values" party. Sup, Greed.

Nice whine, you had me there for a minute.

Seriously, though. Plenty of righties, most in fact, through their contribute money towards caring for the poor and elderly. I guess it's the old Christian Values thing. I can't wait for you to raise the argument "Why are there still poor people ....." and then I'll laugh as I watch you to try to tell me that governments, historically, in their benevolence and good will have always taken care of those that cannot care for themselves.

I especially enjoyed your tirade about "The Revolution is coming, and I will laugh in your bloody fucking face when you get what's coming to you."

    'Sup Pride

Good one. When I ask a good 'ole righty that goes to Temple, Church or :x Mosque, what they actually do on a personal level to contribute I get a wealth of scripture about not broadcasting one's acts of charity. Usually when I ask people, like yourself, what they actually do to contribute on a personal level .... you know, outside of FICA, I get a wealth of excuses. 'Sup Sloth

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed your ignorant judgemental rant 'Sup Vanity
