I guess Oklahoma will have to play in and subsequently lose a few more NC games before we can be the best at being overrated.

No way Army/Navy should be on that list.

[Dennis Miller]Not to go off on a rant here, but Powlus was overrated becaus of one ESPN announcer who we laugh at when he says anything about college football.[/Dennis Miller]
And I guess it depends on how you and the media has viewed ND over the last few years. I think in the last 8 years they haven't been overrated too often, with the exception of '02-'03.
Mine:
10. LSU
9. ACC as the new "power confrence".
8. Florida
7. Red River Shoot Out
6. Mid Majors and their chances to beat traditional powers.
5. Nebraska
4. Lloyd Carr
3. ESPN
2. Title IX

But that's like calling Holtz overrated near the end of his run at ND. He constantly has top 10 teams but just can't get back to the top of the mountain.

Some people are going to get very defensive in this thread. The funny thing, two of our favorites likely won't chime in because I don't think anyone will have Iowa or Michigan State as overrated.

Interesting, considering NU hasn't been ranked any higher than #10 since Oct. 11, 2003.
And winning 3 NCs vs. teams ranked #3 or higher in Miami, Florida and Tennessee doesn't qualify.
Still bitter over that 2 game series K?

Recently, it's more of a Lemming blow fest over Callahan, whom I think is very overrated as a coach.
I'm not bitter over the two game series because I've come to let go of that hate. I now realize that the 2000 ND/NU game was the game that crystalized the fact that Bob Davie was in way over his head and has no idea how to be a head coach. ND had NU on the ropes near the end of the game (tied, had the ball, over a minute and a half and I believe 2 time outs) and the pussy played for overtime. Fuck that. 2001 you pounded a talented ND team that had absolutely no leadership, and paved the way for Davie's departure.
'95 Nebraska is the best college team I have ever seen, and likely will ever see. If I'm bitter over anything, it's Tommy Frazer's decision to go to NU over ND.
I look at NU (during Solich, we'll see with Callahan) the same way I think people looked at ND in the mid 90's. Yeah, you won a NC a few years ago, but what have you done lately to deserve this ranking?

Have you seen the class Mack has already got committed for next Febuary? It's pretty much locked up as a top 3 class already.
But I can live with overrated. The more overrated you think Mack is, the more underrated you think Texas is.

Oh, and as for my list, just add "Vince Young's Heisman Chances" to whatever is already in place. Yeah, he can run, but his passes couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from inside it.

.
the game itself is not overrated......what it *means* to UT fan is. Mack didn't choke on his own slobber for once. c'mon, beating a top 25 team on a last second field goal does not make Texas great. Texas fans act like since they beat a lower ranked team on a FG it's first time it ever happened...in all of college football history.
"best bowl games ever"?
no. no way.
did you see the finish to the Iowa-LSU game last year?
UT-UM wasn't even the best bowl game last year....let alone "ever".

What is more of a springboard, Rosebowl win or BCS ass rape? Call me silly but I think the Rose Bowl win is more of a spring board than the ass raping boob stoopid took.
No one gives a crap want a bunch of sooners think, mostly because sooner-think is an oxymoron but also because you fudge-packers are coming off an ass raping of epic proportions. Our last second bowl win is much bigger and give much more momentum than your prison rape.
You want to know what that game means? I'll tell you want that game means, Texas has already locked up all the top talent in the state as far as recruiting goes, VY is a Heisman contender, Texas is preseason Ranked #2 by most polls. That is part of the momentum gained from that win.
It also means we are either set up to fall flat on our faces with all the preseason hype or have one hell of a ride.
Beyond that, for this team, it has given this them confidence that it can go toe to toe with the best and win.
I think sooner fan needs to STFU and figure out what the hell they are going to do for an Oline and QB this year.

8. The Iowa Hawkeyes.
7. Larry Coker.
6. The elimination of the halo rule.
5. Les Miles
4. Brent Venables
3. Texas' win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl
2. Dennis Find-a-new-homey

Eliminating the halo was dumb
As much as I hate to give JON=BITCH's team props I gotta disagree about the Hawkeyes. Ferentz is a genius.
I guess we'll see about Miles, some other OSU-refugees have done quite well when given the big shot.
Turning on Venables? Not sure I blame you, it was much more Brent's defense than Bo's. Yet again shows what the loss of a quality coordinator(Mike) can do. I think USC is going to miss Chow much more than they think.
I agree with Killian about the Lemming/Callahan-69, even as a Neb fan I find it transparent and sickening.
The Bowden family is quite overrated, FSU will never see another MNC-ring unless daddy cans Jeff from his OC-duties
I'll thrown in:
Mich and Ohio State history-go on their boards and they go on forever about it, especially Mich-fan.
Va Tech-the one MNC they played for came from running the board on a WAC-level sched.
Mike Bellotti, lived off some quality hires made early in his tenure. Now that those guys are gone his team is .500. IMO he needs to revamp, maybe he'll find some studs again.
ND's "academic standards" excuse is definitely overrated. While the argument carries some weight many of the teams ND has lost to weren't recruiting juggernauts. ND can still out-recruit 90% of the country because they are freaking ND. With Weis coming off a superbowl win and his pro-style offense recruiting to his system should be little problem.

Couldn't agree more. And for the OU fans who are upset I threw the Red River Ass Raping in there, it's because for the last 5 years it's been as much of a rivalry as the storied rivalry between the hammer and nail. It's overrated until Texas starts making it a rivalry again.

You go toe to toe with one of the best every October, and here lately you've been getting your fucking eyes gouged out like a Pagan sacrifice.
All your delusions of grandeur will come to a halt long before the Longhorns are subjected to the yearly Red River Dryfucking. Rest assured that Ohio State coaching staff have spent the summer watching the Rose Bowl over and over and over again. Vince Young will be ineffective against the Bucknut D at the 'shoe.
